For several seasons now, the sportswear trend has been making its mark on the catwalks. From sneaker-inspired T-shirts to field hockey sweaters and the return of running leggings, the fashion world is revitalizing the athletic look. The trend is spreading beyond the catwalk: the muscular, streamlined bodies of Karlie Klaus and Gisèle Bundchen are becoming a benchmark, and the 19 national editions of Vogue signed a pact in 2012 to use only “healthy” models. The healthy trend invades blogs and Tumblr. A true philosophy of life.

In this craze, brands with a sportswear identity are showing new impetus: Adidas’ collaborations with top designers are countless. Its successful association with Yohji Yamamoto was already 13 years old. Known for his pioneering flair, by the time he approached Adidas, the designer had already tried his luck with Nike, who thanked him. Yamamoto, through this collaboration, wanted to return to a sneaker culture closer to the street. As the collections progressed, Y3 demonstrated its casual chic, departing somewhat from its original sporty verve. At a time when the “Healthy” wave is on the rise, Yohji Yamamoto wanted to give this collection a new dynamic impetus.

At the heart of the action, this collection offers simple, fluid and light pieces, adapted to movement. The keyword of the collection seems to be fluidity: given through the abstraction of the prints, the cuts of the ponchos, the soothing colors (sometimes pierced by a bright red or electric blue). Stripes appear as a tribute to the three-stripes brand. Men’s and women’s silhouettes are indistinguishable, a collection that experiments with the potential of sporty allure to make any body pure. Fighting, rivalry and sweat seem to have no place in the Y3 universe. Sport without effort: a dream come true.
