On May 15, the results of the ICOMOS (International Council on Monuments and Sites) evaluation of the “Coteaux, Maisons et Caves de Champagne” nomination for inclusion on the World Heritage List became official.
After a long and rigorous appraisal lasting almost 18 months, ICOMOS, an independent advisory organization, has just published its recommendation to the World Heritage Committee.
Today marks the penultimate stage in the successful application of the Paysages du Champagne association, which has been in existence for 8 years. It was submitted in the “Living evolving cultural landscape” category, created in 1992 to designate a combined work of Man and Nature.
The final decision will be taken in just over a month’s time at the 39th session of the World Heritage Committee in Bonn, Germany. It is on this occasion that the 21 member states on the World Heritage Committee will deliver their final opinion on the Coteaux, Maisons et Caves de Champagne nomination.
