John Galliano is back! The Englishman’s creative madness is reflected in the very first ready-to-wear collection for Maison Margiela. After the couture presented in London last January, the designer makes a remarkable return to Paris fashion week. The collection features exaggerated make-up and looks that mix materials, genres and influences. There was a slight seventies revival, with long coats that fell, short jackets with large collars, patterned miniskirts and shiny textures. The Margiela spirit is present through deconstructed pieces, exposed stitching, clean-edged cuts and a very particular way of wearing the garment. A tennis-striped bustier reveals an orange bra, while a small pair of velvet corset pants adorned with flowers is tied at the knee. Maison Margiela and John Galliano: an alchemy that seems to work!
