The “Les Perles de CHANEL” collection highlights one of the fundamental themes of CHANEL’s identity.

Mademoiselle Chanel’s image is inseparable from pearls. Wearing them as earrings, chokers, strings or cascades of sautoirs, she would only leave them to sleep.
Doubtless touched by an intimate emotion, she was seduced by their beauty when she discovered Renaissance paintings, in particular a court portrait by Veronese.
She satisfies her taste for contrasts by juxtaposing their lunar whiteness and childlike curves with the strict lines of a close-fitting sweater or a little black dress. Day or evening, pearls work well with all materials, soft on tweed, delicate on silk, caressing on skin.
Lively and mobile, the pearls she casually plays with are also an irresistible seductive asset. With her sure instinct for women’s beauty, she knows that pearls catch the light and illuminate her face, highlighting her matte skin and bringing out the sparkle in her eyes and smile. Georges Auric recounts how, one evening in 1925, while dancing the Charleston, she broke a string of fine pearls at least two meters long. Royal and indifferent, she was amused to see, on her knees, the assembly of gentlemen in tuxedos searching for her precious gems…
