The 63rd Cannes Film Festival ended on May 23, 2010. And with this last closing ceremony, we attended the last ascent of the steps, the last steps on the red carpet, the last crackling of the flashes…
The stars showed up one last time in their best clothes at the foot of the Palais des Festivals. Thus, brilliantly ending her Festival of Grace, Kate Beckinsale was still divine, all in delicacy in her strapless dress with black ruffles Nina Ricci from the collection Fall-Winter 2010-2011 that she accessorized with a pair of earrings Chandelier diamonds, and platinum bracelets set with diamonds all Chopard; house to which she has been faithful since the beginning of the Festival. Nathalie Baye had a natural elegance in her black dress and Cartier jewelry. Salma Hayek perfectly fulfilled her role as ambassador of the Gucci Première Haute Couture line by wearing a long strapless powder pink dress in silk georgette and gold beads whose drape emphasizes her delicate waist. She also wore a rose gold ring set with morganite and Gucci Haute Joaillerie diamonds.
Judith Godrèche was radiant in her Emilio Pucci midnight blue lace dress with tulle, feathers and beads and Swarovski accessories. Kristin Scott Thomas stunned in her long asymmetrical draped dress in yellow tones. As for Emmanuelle Béart, she surprised in pantsuit and Swarovski accessories for this last rise of the steps.
But this ceremony was above all the ceremony of the most prestigious award: the Golden Palm. Fixed on a cushion of rock crystal in the shape of an emerald cut diamond, a stem with a delicate curve, forming at its base a small heart, slowly unfolds its leaves. Redesigned in 1997 by Caroline Gruosi-Scheufele, co-president of the House of Chopard, and produced in the Chopard workshops, this precious trophy is without doubt the most coveted jewel of the Festival. It rewards the best film of the competition.
In 2000, two “mini-palms”, identical replicas of their famous elder sister, were added to this symbolic object.
This year, two acting awards were presented by Diane Krüger, fabulous in her Jason Wu dress, for two roles as a courageous father. Javier Bardem was very elegant in a Gucci Gucci Made to Order tuxedo to receive his award for best actor for Biutiful by Mexican Alejandro Gonzales Inarritu. The second prize for mascuine interpretation was given to Elio Germano for his role in La Nostra Vita by Daniele Luchetti.
Juliette Binoche received the Best Actress award for Abbas Kiarostami’s Copie conforme from Guillaume Canet. For this evening, she chose to wear a Cartier panther necklace, made of platinum, diamonds, onyx and yellow sapphire to enhance her white Céline strapless dress specially designed for her by Phoebe Philo and delicately adorned with a metallic bronze belt.
The Palme d’Or was finally awarded by Charlotte Gainsbourg to the film Uncle Boonmee, the one who remembers his past lives by Thai director Apichatpong Weerasethakul.
If the 2010 list of winners surprised some, there is in any case a list of winners that did not disappoint for this 63rd festival: that of glamour and elegance.
