A year ago, Bosideng presented Master Puff on the sidelines of Paris Fashion Week. On 5 October 2026, for its 50th anniversary, the Chinese down-jacket brand showed on the official calendar, with a collection that entrusts the control of down volume to the cut.
On Monday 5 October 2026, Bosideng presented The Bloomat the Hôtel Pozzo di Borgo, rue de l’Université, in the 7th arrondissement, the former home of Karl Lagerfeld. The brand says it appears for the first time on the official Paris Fashion Week calendar. It has already shown collections in New York, Milan and London.
Down volume is the subject of the collection. Pietro Ferragina, its creative director, divides it into four wardrobes: Grand Froid, Outdoor, Business and Puff. Grand Froid starts from the protection that polar expeditions demand and layers tulle and satin over it, with the fullness of an evening gown. Outdoor keeps technologies drawn from mountaineering, from the hardshell system to dynamic moisture management, and softens the cut. Business tightens the volume into “almost architectural” silhouettes, beneath the structure of the tailored suit. Puff, which the brand presents as its emblem, rests on an O-shaped form combined with 3D modelling. Paofu, the Chinese word from which it takes this name, also means cream puff.
The contribution put forward is one of construction. From the Shanghai qipao, the fitted dress with a mandarin collar, the brand takes the collar, the slits and the cross-over, which it says it fuses into the construction of the functional garment. Song brocade, a silk fabric from Suzhou, appears in touches on matte materials, and Art Deco brings geometric order. The dialogue with fashion is long-standing: the anniversary exhibition recalls collaborations with Jean Paul Gaultier, Kenzo Takada and MSGM, as well as a down trench coat.
The criterion that applies is the one the brand sets itself: to be done with a down jacket judged “bulky” and “inelegant”, two adjectives that are its own. A volume can be contained by the cut or dressed up by ornament. The Outdoor and Business lines, as described, belong to the first path: qipao slits built into a technical garment, a suit that imposes its order on the down. Grand Froid and the finale, a succession of down evening silhouettes, pink from head to toe, play at the scale of the gown. The down jacket there becomes a ceremonial garment, which is an answer, but to a different question. Feathers and brocade add surface; how well the volume holds depends on the cut.
The interest of the subject is established. A brand that calls itself number one in down-jacket sales in China for 31 years, present in 72 countries, displays in Paris the ambition to make the down jacket a lasting part of international fashion. The quality of the collection cannot be settled from a description: it will be judged on the pieces, and no recommendation precedes it. What remains to be established is whether the down volume there obeys the cut or the ornament. That is where The Bloom is judged.
