BEST OF LONELY PLANET, THE TRAVEL IDEAS BOX FOR 2013
For the 8th year running, Lonely Planet, the world’s leading travel guide publisher, has surveyed and interviewed its authors (as well as bloggers and travelers) to compile a list of places to explore and things to experience in 2013.
This list, always exciting, sometimes surprising, includes 10 countries, 10 regions and 10 cities. It’s an idea box for those looking for new horizons to explore. For the third year, this list is published in French in the form of a book available in bookshops in November under the title BEST OF 2013 DE LONELY PLANET.
This year, the spotlight is on a French territory: Corsica.
The 2013 list of countries included such must-sees as Sri Lanka, Turkey,
Iceland and the Dominican Republic, as well as more unexpected destinations such as
Montenegro, the Solomon Islands and Slovakia. The city section includes classic
destinations such as San Francisco and Amsterdam, as well as Hyderabad in India, Derry/Londonderry
in Northern Ireland and Addis Ababa. This year’s regional winners
include Mustang in Nepal, Carinthia in Austria and the Palawan Islands in the Philippines. In
this top 10 list, Corsica is the only French region (after Alsace in 2011 and
les Charentes-Poitou in 2012). Three main criteria were used to compile this list: the destination’s topicality, its appeal and its value for money.
And to round off the list, the book also offers gourmet travellers
the chance to choose from some fifteen themes to help them choose their future destination.

trail of Agent 007 or in the wake of the Titanic…
