Once again this winter, this mellting pot of contemporary art presents an audacious exhibition in co-production with the Museo Ampara in Puebla, Mexico: América Latina 1960-2013.

Intelligently conceived, the América Latina exhibition invites us to plunge into the multiple artistic universes that bear witness to and shape the common, albeit fragile, identity of this continent that has been conquered a thousand times. Bringing together works dating from 1960 to the present day, the exhibition also offers a radically new approach to a key period in the history of Latin America: the era of protests, revolutions, dictatorships and democratic transitions that brought about this impetuous need for speech and communication. A daring perspective that translates into Latin American photography through the prism of the relationship between text and photographic image, revealing the incredible diversity of existing practices.

Bringing together seventy artists from eleven different countries, the América Latina exhibition seeks to highlight the affinities between artists from generation to generation, while reflecting the diversity of visual languages specific to the American subcontinent. In search of singular voices, the exhibition features a film by Paraguayan director Fredi Casco. A unique testimony to the creative diversity that reigns on the continent through in-depth, personal portraits. The Fondation Cartier is about to present us with a jewel that will enable us, in Europe, to discover the vitality of Latin American art, which is little known today, but also the legacy that these artists leave us, showing their influence beyond their cultural or geographical territory!
