RAMI AL ALI – Haute Couture – SPRING / SUMMER 2014

To celebrate his fifth season in the French capital, Syrian-born couturier Rami Al Ali presented his new Spring/Summer collection on January 20, 2014.

In an intimate atmosphere, Al Ali unveiled his latest creations to an exclusive audience of the fashion elite. His marvelous collection, inspired by John Everett Millais’ painting of Shakespeare’s tragic heroine Ophelia, literally captivated the audience. A delicate balance of strength and fragility, Ophelia’s legacy depicts the illusion of the most vulnerable love. Inspired by Millais’ metamorphosis of tragedy into beauty, Al Ali delivers a new, more complex vision of the ordeal of broken love. A predominantly natural setting, sublimated by unusual floral motifs, symbolizes the profound emotion that love and romance transcend in madness and death.

The dramatic aspect of the painting, contrasted by the striking purity of its subject, highlights a canvas of perfect creativity.
A perfect symbiosis of fashion and art, Al Ali’s creativity brings a new stylistic dimension to clothing with softer lines and more fluid fabrics. A plethora of lace accentuates the melancoliquet depth, while the transparency and lightness of textiles offer a fluidity in harmony with the aquatic universe surrounding Ophelia’s body. Pastel hues dominate the collection’s color palette, with delicate shades of mint green, wheat, lavender and pink, enhanced by brighter tones like violet and coral. The feminine silhouettes are structured by bias cuts, created using modern techniques in homage to the creations of Lucien
Lelong, the famous Parisian couturier of the early 20th century. True to his roots, Al Ali brings his own signature to even the most intricate details of the floral motifs, fusing his love of the finest materials with the symbolism of the theme. Dazzlingly beautiful, the embroidered textiles flow elegantly to the floor in elaborate draperies, giving women a bold
allure. With unique craftsmanship evident in every piece, Al Ali’s collection is transformed into a work of art, sublimated by a staging of her creations presented on installations rather than models, allowing guests to discover in greater detail the intricacies of the techniques used.
Once again, Al Ali has transcended emotion and charm through a collection of 15 unique pieces, perfectly symbolizing all the sentiments present in Millais’ canvas and thus offering a new vision of this masterpiece of art.
