After a remarkable collaboration with Comme des Garçons, Converse is teaming up this month with the mysterious Maison Martin Margiela. For fans of the brand, including myself, this is as important a fashion event as Fashion Week, which is just around the corner in Paris.
The idea behind this encounter is Margiela’s own: to give new life to a garment or accessory by reworking the original material. The pair of Converse shoes will be entirely covered in white paint, making it impossible for the buyer to know what color is hidden beneath. Only time and use of the Converse will crack the paint to reveal the pair’s original color, an idea as ingenious as it is poetic.
Two Converse models will be available (high and low): the Chuck Taylor and the Jack Purcell. The shoes should be on sale from September 20 for €200 at Colette, L’Éclaireur and Maison Martin Margiela boutiques.
