In the lair of Louis XIII

What if true luxury was time? Of course, the introduction is easy, but for Louis XIII Cognac, it’s a question of DNA. Here’s a look back at a journey where clinging to your watch is pointless…

Rendez-Vous at the Centre des Grandes Champagnes to discover what makes the Charente-Maritime region and the town of Cognac so famous, a precious liquid that requires time and dedication on the part of men: cognac. The town may be small, but the houses present are large, and it was Rémy-Martin that offered us this opportunity to plunge into the heart of Fine Champagne Cognac.

Accompanied by the delightful cellar master Pierrette Trichet, we were introduced to the art of blending, where hundreds of different eaux de vie melt into one another, awakened after decades of slumber in the bottoms of barrels carefully guarded by spiders. And if Rémy Martin is the specialist in this type of Cognac, it was its masterpiece, the Louis XIII, that was offered to us, and particularly its singular edition, the Rare Cask 42.6.

Spotted in the late 2000s, the tierçon spotted by the cellar master took a few more years to reveal itself in 2012!

And since magnificent things can only be produced in multiples, this rare edition unfortunately only produced 738 Baccarat black crystal decanters, as if to sublimate this precious liquid with its aromas of plums, tobacco leaf and gingerbread.

“There are only 738 decanters of LOUIS XIII Rare Cask 42.6, and each decanter is numbered.

To own one is a privilege”.
