Domaine de Larrivaux is located in Cissac-Médoc, a neighboring commune of the prestigious Saint-Estephe appellation, and extends over 75 hectares, 19 of which are dedicated to viticulture. The vineyards are spread over three blocks of plots surrounding the property. Today, Château Larrivaux Managing Director Bérangère Tesseron continues the family adventure, assisted by Technical Director Christophe Barbeyron and oenologist Eric Boissenot.

Château Larrivaux 2009

Château Larrivaux has been passed down by the women of the family since 1580, and the first bottles were produced in 1861. Château Larrivaux’s terroir is composed of 70% clay-gravel soil and 30% clay-limestone, giving its wines power and elegance. In contrast to the classic Médoc grape varieties, Château Larrivaux stands out for its choice to grow mainly Merlot, which is better adapted to the terroir, resulting in rounder, fleshier wines: “the true Larrivaux signature”.
In 2009, flowering and fruit set were early. They began in early June, when the weather was warm, sunny and relatively dry. Veraison was also premature, taking place after an insufficiently dry period in early July. Ripening of the grapes was complete thanks to the warm but variably wet months of August and September. Harvesting began on September 30 and ended on October 15, in a climate that was hot and cool at the end. Château Larrivaux is distinguished by its deep ruby color. The nose reveals lovely aromas of blackcurrant, blueberry and licorice. The palate is supple and tightly textured, with elegant, well-melted tannins. A perfectly balanced wine with good length.
