Vintage Treasures-001

Vintage Treasures was written by two fashion enthusiasts. Pénélope Blanckaert is a graduate of the Institut Français de la Mode and founder of PB FASHION, a vintage and contemporary fashion consultancy. Accompanied by Angèle Rincheval Hernu, a graduate of Sciences Po and the Institut Français de la Mode who, after commercial experience in ready-to-wear, joined the Yohji Yamamoto fashion house in 2007 as head of communications, she now freelances for fashion houses and cultural clubs in Paris.

Vintage Treasures is the reference book for vintage fashion. It brings together over 1000 exceptional pieces from 1900 to 2000. More than just a book, it’s a veritable encyclopedia of emblematic women’s couture and ready-to-wear pieces, all signed by the greatest names in couture and sold at auction in recent years.

This selection is based on fashion auctions held by 21 major auction houses in France, Great Britain and the United States. Each photographed piece is accompanied by an auction-catalog-style descriptive sheet (designer’s name, year of creation, cut, material, finish, embroidery, buttons, label, etc.), estimate and price, as well as a bibliography, filmography or iconography. The works presented are those of the greatest couturiers of the 20th century, from Worth to Comme Des Garçons or Martin Margiela, via Schiaparelli, Chanel, Grès, Poiret, Dior and many others. These rare pieces, classified by decade, retrace the evolution of styles and trends in each era, and the way in which each major House has, in its own way, become part of the history of fashion. To round out this bible, the book features special features on vintage news, top designers and record sales, as well as interviews and portraits of experts. The book concludes with a selection of places to see and buy vintage around the world.

Vintage treasures will be published by de la Martinière from October 17, 2013.
