Jean Paul Gaultier, Parisian fashion’s leading designer, needs no introduction. For his Haute Couture show, the designer transports us to Asia, and more precisely to India, for a show featuring kitsch and Bollywood-chic. Here’s a look back at the show/travel.
On arriving at Jean-Paul Gaultier’s studios (where the show was held), we immediately understood the strength of this season’s inspiration. Indeed, the décor was reminiscent of Indian films, with a heavy dose of orange, and for the occasion, each of the guest blocks had been renamed.
A spectacle of color and drape, the pieces are imposing and surprising. The famous corset that made the designer famous is revisited, of course, but there are other, more romantic and inspired pieces. Lengths are the order of the day, creating an airy, wispy silhouette, aided by the fluidity of the materials.
A poetic wink: little girls in saris emerging from under the bride’s dress for a finale that left a lasting impression.
