Neil Barrett Menswear Autumn/Winter 2013/2014

I don’t need to remind you how much I adore Neil Barrett, it’s a love bordering on veneration that the English designer specializing in menswear evokes in me. Just like the collection, we have a dream cast and a perfect soundtrack. So maybe the show is a bit long, but can you ever have enough of a good thing?

Precise and modern, Neil Barrett is inspired by the Bauhaus movement and its geometric shapes. The simplicity of the color palette is striking, and Neil Barrett makes camel, black, navy blue and white his signatures, so recognizable and distinctive are these hues.

Simplicity doesn’t seem to be the only notion imbued with the Bauhaus movement; functionality is also at its heart. Bombers, sweaters and coats – these are the kind of clothes Neil Barrett offers that are beautiful and appropriate for winter, without falling into a rigorist aridity that would make the collection boring. What the color palette lacks in fantasy, Neil Barrett reinjects in shapes, fabric mixes and prints.

Excellence, you can see that details are not left to chance. Who would have thought that a black and white zigzag pattern print on a pony lining could look so clean? Neil Barrett demonstrates this, and the execution is, like the entire Autumn/Winter collection, exact and elegant.
