On March 17, 2013, at the Antiquorum auction of “Modern Important & Vintage Watches” in Geneva, one of A.Lange & Söhne’s most coveted masterpieces changed hands for 275,710! a TOURBILLON “Pour le Mérite” with the rare combination of a white gold case and blue dial. This fascinating watch is part of a limited edition of 200 dating from 1994. Fifty of these watches were produced with platinum cases and 130 with 18-carat white gold cases. Only 19 were equipped with white gold cases.

The exceptionally high auction result for this complication watch far exceeded the maximum estimate of 225,000! The piece sold for more than 4 times its original retail price, the highest bid ever achieved for a white gold TOURBILLON “Pour le Mérite”. Watch collectors the world over have expressed interest in this opus. At auction, the TOURBILLON “Pour le Mérite” ranks as one of A. Lange & Söhne’s most popular models. Lange & Söhne models. Well-preserved pieces can fetch three to five times their original price.
With its unique fusee-chain transmission, the TOURBILLON “Pour le Mérite” is a remarkable timepiece from the Saxon manufacture. First integrated into a wristwatch in 1994, the mechanism that compensates for the mainspring’s loss of torque was combined with a one-minute tourbillon, demonstrating Lange’s place among the finest manufacturers of complication watches.
