The Majestic Hotel: a palace in Kuala Lumpur

Over the past few years, Asia has seen the addition of a number of new luxury hotels. The Majestic Kuala Lumpur is one of them.
This Malay establishment has preserved its original heritage building. Built in the 1930s, it is one of the city’s jewels. Situated on 1.5 hectares on Jalan Sultan Hishamuddin, a key location in the historic center of Kuala Lumpur, opposite the old railway station. Completely renovated, it reopened in December 2012. It is owned by the YTL chain.
The hotel features a fully restored five-storey “Majestic wing” housing the suites, Café Colonial, bar and tea room.

Another 15-storey wing houses the reception, other rooms and suites. The Opus One restaurant, 16 meeting rooms, a ballroom for up to 1,200 people, a gymnasium and a swimming pool are also available.

The “Majestic” Spa, in a separate building, features seven treatment rooms, a relaxation area and its own swimming pool.
A second building, The Smokehouse, features a lounge, a private dining room, a cigar smoking room, as well as games and projection rooms.
To titillate the taste buds, the Opus One restaurant is a contemporary establishment luxuriously designed with an interactive open kitchen concept and a capacity of 250 people. A selection of wines has been designed in collaboration with Baron Philippe de Rothschild and Robert Mondavi.
The Café Colonial, on the other hand, recreates the atmosphere of Malaysia’s happy planter days and serves traditional dishes. The adjacent tearoom is also designed in a colonial style and serves refreshments and tea. In the evening, nostalgia fills the air as the descendants of the legendary Soliano Maestro Alfonso, a family whose musical traditions are rooted in national history, begin to play their classical interpretations.
