Le Clos Haut-Peyraguey Sauternes 2009: bewitching!

Meaning “hill”, “promontory”, Peyraguey is situated on a 50 to 80-metre-high ridge on the Bommes plateau: it’s an ideal observatory at the center of Sauternes’ finest growths. Bernard Magrez, no stranger to the world of wine, acquired Clos Haut-Peyraguey, Premier Grand Cru Classé de Sauternes, in October 2012.

The Clos Haut-Peyraguey terroir is located on gravelly-sandy soil and a clay subsoil, benefiting from a north-easterly exposure. With a surface area of 12 hectares and a density of 6,660 vines per hectare, the vineyard is planted with 95% Semillon and 5% Sauvignon. The average age of the vines is 35 to 40 years. Rigorous work is carried out throughout the year to obtain healthy grapes at harvest time, in optimum conditions for ripening and botrytization, within the strict framework of sustainable agriculture. A healthy approach!

On tasting, Clos Haut-Peyraguey 2009 boasts a complex, expressive nose. It’s quite elegant, with lovely notes of candied fruit, white peach and honey. A subtle, delicate wine to tantalize the taste buds. It’s a beautiful score that’s being recited. This wine also has good ageing potential. An exceptional vintage!

Clos Haut Peyraguey is sold in the best wine shops at an average retail price of €39.90.
