Julien Fournié asserts himself season after season. With his autumn-winter collection Premiers Gènescollection, he confirms his creativity and his universe, marked by the house’s famous codes: the use of zippers, body-hugging fabrics, molding the busts and waists of slender women, the art of the upturned slit, and inlaid rhinestones.
It’s easy to spot the future trends announced for spring summer 2013: drapes, transparency, stripes, ruffles, two-tone colors, not to mention iridescence, an inevitable feature of the coming season.
An explosive cocktail of black and white, enhanced by rhinestones and sequins, extremely elaborate evening gowns, geometric motifs and Fournié elegance that’s instantly recognizable.
What I like best are the elegant, graphic cut-outs he applies to almost all his creations, as well as his geeky take on lace, which he transforms into an electrical circuit. Also noteworthy is the cube-shaped headdress subtly placed on each model’s skull.
While the trend of the season is to parade homosexual couples, Fournié creates a surprise by parading a pregnant woman at the height of her blossoming.
Her latest collection blends modernity and graphic whimsy. The incredible pumps are once again by Walter Steiger.
