The start of a new era

The 400-year cycle of the Mayan calendar ends on December 21, 2012, and some esoteric people interpret this as the end of the world. A. Lange & Söhne is not impressed, and offers one of the most innovative Tourbillon watches with a perpetual calendar ready to welcome the new cycle.
The LANGE 1 TOURBILLON PERPETUAL CALENDAR was created for all those who have chosen to look to the future and appreciate the precision of a perpetual calendar. This calendar will not have to be corrected until the year 2100, and then only by one day. Visionaries are optimists, and are not put off by the apocalyptic visions associated with the Codex Maya. Indeed, the Codex Maya is remarkably precise in its astronomical calculations, predicting December 21, 2012 as the end of the world and the beginning of a new era. This unique manifesto proves that the Mayans were visionaries and saw beyond their world. A. Lange & Söhne shares this vision by innovating and developing new timepieces.
In this context, it is legitimate to establish a link between the LANGE 1 TOUBILLON PERPETUAL CALENDAR and the Mayan Codex. Indeed, the LANGE 1 TOUBILLON PERPETUAL CALENDAR symbolizes the Saxon brand’s constant drive for improvement. Despite the large number of displays required for a perpetual calendar, the dial remains highly legible. The date, day of the week, moon phase and leap year are positioned outside the hour and minute dials, without encroaching on the latter. The months appear on a peripheral ring, preserving the LANGE 1’s classic dial configuration while guaranteeing excellent legibility.

Walter Lange also expressed his confidence in the future when, after the fall of the Berlin Wall, he decided to breathe new life into the legacy his great-grandfather had created in 1845. On October 24, 1994, the presentation of the new Saxon timepieces, in particular the LANGE 1, marked the beginning of A. Lange & Söhne’s ascent. Lange & Söhne. The brand now occupies a prime position among the world’s finest watchmakers. For Lange, achieving a goal is always an incentive to evolve, as demonstrated by the company’s recent decision to expand its manufacture with a new building. The extension of over 5,400 square meters will optimize production and working conditions. With the laying of the foundation stone on September 5, 2012, the Saxon company is ushering in a new era with this additional space dedicated to future innovations.
Only three copies of the Codex Maya are available to the public: the Dresden Codex is held by the Saxon University Library, while the other two authentic copies are in Paris and Madrid.
