The Ardbeg distillery launches Ardbeg Galileo, a limited edition 12-year-old, to celebrate its participation in the first experiment in maturation in space.

The Russian Soyuz rocket has lifted off from Earth, carrying an unusual load: vials from the Ardbeg distillery containing compounds known as “terpenes”, a class of aromatic chemical elements widely found on Earth.
Over a two-year period on the International Space Station, the experiment will attempt to explain the maturation process of these complex compounds in a near-zero gravity environment.
It should also enable Ardbeg to broaden the taste spectrum of its chemical ingredients and, why not, discover new data on aromas.
The start of an unprecedented adventure!
TO CELEBRATE THIS EXPERIENCE, ARDBEG PRESENTS THE LIMITED EDITION “ARDBEG GALILEO” FOR THE END OF THE YEAR.

Ardbeg Galileo was distilled in 1999 and has a smooth, smoky texture. The heart of this special edition of Ardbeg is a whisky aged in Marsala (Sicilian wine) casks, combined with Ardbeg aged in first and second fill Bourbon casks. The Marsala casks add fruity aromas and texture to the distillery’s famous peaty, smoky style.
