Chic plastic at AMAYA ARZUAGA
Sometimes, the ideas that germinate in the minds of designers are less tortuous than we might expect. We always imagine that the creative process is a complex thing, sometimes pretentious when we try to understand its inspirational elements. With Amaya Arzuaga, there’s no difficulty or superfluity.
It’s the idea of duality and the perfect movement of the circle that underlies the thinking behind this collection. A circle is a perfect, full geometric figure, so we expect beautiful volumes and color-blocking, and on both counts, we’re not disappointed.
Basic yet bold colors such as green, red and blue were mixed with white and black, the season’s flagship colors. The originality lies in the mix of materials and the use of plastic on collars and even as the basis of the entire garment. The models’ hair is styled and slicked back, reminding us of the texture of this material.
Beautiful symmetries on the dresses, with blends of color and transparent plastic where you least expect it, such as at the waist and shoulders, this is a collection full of finesse and good taste from the Spanish designer, who nevertheless breaks established codes with her intelligent use of materials that we don’t often see married together in such an empirical way.
