Manolo Blahnìk 40 years of glamour at Printemps.

Every fan of American series such as Gossip Girl or Sex And The City and, more generally, every self-respecting woman knows Manolo Blahnik. His shoes and his name are among the legends of pump designers, and to be offered (or to offer oneself) a pair of his shoes is comparable to obtaining the Holy Grail.

For 40 years, Monsieur Blahnik has been inspiring women the world over with his creations, imbued with genius and savoir-faire. From vertiginous heels to kitten-heels, Manolo Blahnik embodies elegance itself. In fact, his shoes never feature platforms, giving them that distinctive look that is the brand’s signature: a classic contemporary style, or one that’s completely crazy, emblematic of the stiletto.

And so it’s at Printemps, one of Paris’s finest department stores and a temple to fashion obsessives, that the exhibition retracing the designer’s career takes place. Several themes are explored, each accompanied by Mr. Blahnik’s creations to illustrate them.

Born in Spain in 1971, he decided to become a designer, and it’s safe to say that luck crossed his path. It was the editor-in-chief of Vogue USA, Diana Vreeland, who wisely advised him to go into pumps after seeing his sketches. And what wonderful advice it was. Manolo Blahnìk has enjoyed nothing but success and fame ever since.
