An explosion of color by Issey Miyake

The house of Issey Miyake is known for its extensive research and engineering work in developing its collections. It never hesitates to be daring and to think outside the box, always proposing collections that are out of the ordinary on many levels, whether in terms of staging or, more simply, the clothes themselves.

This season, we’re told that the intellectual path to the final result, which was shown to us at the Grand Palais, is no exception to the rule. The colors and movements of exotic birds were thus chosen as the main theme of this collection.

And what colors! With Issey Miyake, there’s no monochrome monotony or boring prints. We’re witnessing a veritable chromatic explosion. Clothes incorporate blues, greens, yellows, oranges and reds, all in a progression with the show’s music. By the time we reach the brightest, most intense color: red, the models are no longer marching upright, the rhythm of the music is frenzied and the scene is reminiscent of a profusion of tropical birds.

The structure is also consistent with the ensemble, with pleats, drapes and all manner of lengths, overlays and volumes. Prints abound, with stripes and a remarkable new interpretation of the houndstooth motif, just like the entire “Éclats de couleurs” collection.
