Invited to discover the new Superdry showroom, I made my way to Place des Vosges to take a look around. Nestled at the end of a courtyard, this press area is really warm and welcoming. The small party given for the occasion was really convivial. An opportunity to discover the new collection with a glass of Prosecco in hand. Guided tour…
First, a quick refresher course for newcomers. Superdry is a British brand that blends Japanese design influences with retro-classic style. The first thing you notice when you arrive at this new styling office is the great diversity of models: denim pants ranging from the standard blue jeans for reactive women to the classic premium summer version with stitching, culminating in the premium foundry styles with fitted backs and new skinny cuts. Washes and colors are revisited with saline blues and powder pinks. The PE 2012 collection features meticulous attention to cut, thickness and detail, as well as the ultimate in materials and techniques. Graphic, fine-thread T-shirts are redefined with art-and-essay motifs that energize Superdry’s design language.
Various modern techniques enable crackled double prints. Eagle T-shirts come in oily colors. In the swimwear range, a global concept is launched: a beautiful beach story in a sunset palette, vintage board shorts and bikinis with a silky touch. Military fatigues and shorts arrive in silent, divinely dyed rows with ripped pieces and patched details.
Feminine nylon waterproof jackets in blush pink or bright blue, with waist belt and plaid lining. The Mackintosh classic is brought up to date in Superdry style. Rider jackets in hand-polished wax cotton and hand-tarred leathers are the highlights of the exclusive photo gallery featuring the jackets.
Military-inspired items are influenced by uniforms with copper buttons, two-tone twill fabrics and “ottoman” labels. Top-quality Italian materials and acetate linings give the ensemble an unconditional feel. Regiment and Wren Coat jackets are centerpieces; heritage shirts sit alongside this iconic collection of cotton jackets. The Vintage Thrift line diversifies with feminine babydolls in sunburned voile, washed cottons and panties. Meadow teddy shorts sit alongside bcbg shorts in spring pinks and bold reds.
Dresses are revisited with ruffles, pleats and floral prints. The new color palette includes cashmere pink, sunset and a range of pale grays. White Label Delicates camisole sets feature lace panels, brightly colored linings and low-cut backs. Gingham, cashmere and houndstooth fabrics give the range a fresh, classic feminine touch. Heritage basics for men are a throwback to the Wild West era, with vintage grandfather-style tops and skinny thermal T-shirts. Colleaguic tops in chic colors and coat-of-arms details sit alongside light, spring-like knits in buffalo wool, revisited from the winter collection in brighter colors and new prints.
The accessories range features seasonal trends, from boat rope details to military-inspired briefcases and pastel hessian bags. Tri-colored tote bags and leather pouches add a touch of fun to the collection. The canvas mailbag program is a highlight of the collection, with its muted colors and printed logos.
