Maurizio Galante
He’s not just a couturier, he’s also a designer, and it was in the lobby of the Ecole de la Couture Parisienne, which he himself completely renovated, that Maurizio Galante unveiled his “Herbarum Magnifica” collection.Under a ceiling composed of a hundred thousand suspended pencils in twenty-five different colors, the designer’s atypical creations flourished. Indeed, the eighteen models make up an original bouquet of imaginary flowers in shimmering colors and surprising shapes. Clothes are seen as objects, and curvaceous volumes are juxtaposed with fitted body shapes. Set in a vegetal universe, the pieces are imagined as vital spaces designed to protect the bodies they shelter, like a kind of cocoon. Organza petals frame the face, a silk cape recalls the fluid movements of an anemone, while sheets of fabric form boleros. To music composed of voices melodiously chanting the names of colors in different languages, Maurizio Galante has brought to life before our amazed eyes a parterre of rare and fantastic flowers.
