Thanks to film adaptations, superheroes are now the talk of the town.
If you’re a fan or just want to go back to the source, here’s a selection of the best comics of the moment, starring “Superman – The Last Battle of New Krypton” (Panini Comics). The most famous of superheroes is the star of an epic 3-volume saga, the last of which has just been published. The pitch is both simple and original: what if, overnight, thousands of inhabitants of Superman’s home planet (with the same powers as him) landed on Earth, how would human beings react? The story is gripping, and includes a reunion with Lex Luthor, the Man of Steel’s worst enemy, and his cousin Supergirl. Action, suspense, politics and geopolitics are all on the agenda in one of Superman’s best adventures, signed by the Robinson-Gates-Woods trio.
In parallel, don’t miss “Thor: Victory” (Marvel Deluxe – Panini Comics), helmed by star duo Olivier Coipel (a French cartoonist) and J.M. Straczynski (one of the hottest scriptwriters around). The God of Thunder will have to face up once again to the demonic Loki, whom you discovered in Kenneth Branagh’s feature film. The script is both exciting and intelligent, and not to be missed under any circumstances…
Finally, “Ultimatum” (Marvel deluxe – Panini Comics) will delight action fans. On the program: the X-Men, Spider-Man, the Fantastics…face off against Magneto (sensitive souls please).
