FROM NOVEMBER 4 TO 6, THE BICYCLE FILM FESTIVAL COMES TO PARIS FOR THE 5th YEAR IN A ROW!

A host of enthusiastic cyclists from all over France will gather in November for the 5th edition of the Paris Bicycle Film Festival, to celebrate one of the world’s greatest inventions: the bicycle.

The BFF
The ever-growing popularity of the BFF goes hand in hand with the unprecedented international growth of urban cycling. Since its first edition in New York, the BFF has evolved into an international and multicultural event, which this year will light up more than 25 cities around the world.
In 2001, Brendt Barbur, the festival’s founder and current director, created the Bicycle Film Festival after being hit by a bus while cycling through the streets of New York. Determined to turn this accident into a positive experience, he decided to create a festival dedicated to celebrating the bicycle through music, art and film.
The festival brings together a variety of creative backgrounds (fashion, music, art), as well as many cycling-loving communities – road, off-road, fixed-gear, BMX, cyclocross – to create a festival that celebrates the bicycle through music, art and film.

Films
Among the films on offer this year at Le Nouveau Latina, in the 4th arrondissement, don’t miss the world premiere of RACING TOWARDS RED HOOK. Directed by Jessica Scott and Hyde Harper, the film tells the story of three cyclists from very different backgrounds, competing in the Red Hook Criterium, one of New York’s most important underground events. The rules are simple: 20 laps, 1 gear, 0 brakes.
Also worth seeing is Irvin Coffee’s documentary SUNCHASERS, which explores the world of competitive cycling by following the trajectories of three women with disabilities, at different stages of their careers, as they train to compete in the Paralympic Games.
BFF 2011 will also feature an impressive selection of short films, including LAST MINUTE WITH ODEN (winner of the Vimeo award for best video), a documentary highlighting Oden’s battle with cancer; BIKELORDZ: STUNTS AND STYLES FROM ACCRA, GHANA, which introduces us to a new form of cycling culture in Ghana; BIKE RACE, an animated film featuring the meeting of two of the world’s best cyclists.

Entertainment
LE BFF kicks off on Friday, September 4, with an exhibition of photographs by Anna Gorvits and Peka Devé at the Nouveau Latina, presented at the opening cocktail party at 6:30pm; followed by the first screenings, at 8pm and 10pm, and then the Roller Racing evening, from 11:30pm at Favéla Chic, where you can test your speed and endurance in the legendary Goldsprints race
Saturday, November 5 will see a succession of events, from 10am to 7pm, at the Espace des Blancs Manteaux. On the menu: bike polo, BMX demonstration, Paris tour (starting at 2pm), fixed-gear freestyle… After the screenings – still at 8pm and 10pm at the Nouveau Latina – head to the Social Club for the big BFF party.
On Sunday November 6, the festival wraps up its three days of celebrations in style, with bike polo, BMX, fixed-gear freestyle and the courier alleycat.
