To celebrate its 135th anniversary, Lancel is reopening its flagship store on the Champs-Elysées.
After Stoleshnikov, Lille, Pearl Qatar and Beirut, to name but a few, this is the first Pillet concept store to be created in Paris.
1000m² on the most beautiful avenue in the world, with unprecedented volumes, the House of Lancel has taken over a space worthy of the event!
Conceived by Christophe Pillet, an architect and designer emblematic of the “French Touch” generation and a graduate of Les Arts Décoratifs and the Domus Academy in Milan, who has worked with such design greats as Philippe Starck and Martine Bedin, this new showcase has been designed as a gallery of bags.
Beneath two sumptuous chandeliers in Murano blown glass, handcrafted by the artisans of the Mazzega glassworks, one of the oldest and most prestigious glassworks in Venice, rises a hushed space of timeless luxury, a space that doesn’t give itself away at first glance, a space where it’s good to stroll and enjoy the sweetness of life.
A stained-glass window, hand-painted by master glassmaker Caroline Prégermain, crowned Meilleur Ouvrier de France, adorns this monumental space. Drawn from a 1930 illustration in the Lancel archives, this unique creation testifies to remarkable craftsmanship and creates the atmosphere sought by Christophe Pillet: “My main source of inspiration was the period between the wars, the Roaring Twenties, Art Deco. It was the most creative period for Lancel, which produced such astonishing and innovative objects as the umbrella bag and the bag of tricks.
Warm tones like taupe or chocolate and contemporary materials like wood and metal enhance the collection, with each model magnified in an individual niche like a work of art. A library stepladder will be needed to access the bags placed high up, creating a picturesque atmosphere where sophistication rhymes with proximity.
“We wanted to give the House of Lancel a home in which to express its expertise, its values and, of course, its imagination,” explains Christophe Pillet.
Five universes with evocative names make up this exceptional place, designed as a moment of hospitality:
-French Légèreté” celebrates the House’s mischievous motto, offering women an unprecedented fantasy of shapes, colors and materials.
-Au bonheur des hommes” unveils the entire men’s line.
-Dedicated to the art of vacationing, “L’invitation à l’escapade” presents a wide selection of luggage for all lovers of escapades.
-Dedicated entirely to accessories and gifts, the “Hautes-Nouveautés” room, like a cabinet of curiosities, is brimming with unique and unusual items.
– Finally, a magnificent glass roof shelters a lounge soberly named “Collection Daligramme” in reference to the collection launched by the Maison in September 2011.
Boldness and innovation have been Lancel hallmarks since 1876.
As Christophe Pillet explains:
“This is a unique space that deserves special treatment. We wanted to highlight the craftsmanship so dear to the House, as well as the use of environmentally-friendly materials”.
Solid oak flooring from the first parquet manufacturer with PEFC certification, which guarantees that the wood comes from sustainably managed forests, LED lighting, ecologically certified bronze mirrors, leather furniture tanned with plant extracts… Lancel opens one of the first eco-flagship stores.
The craziest of services will be offered:
In the leather workshop, a craftsman brings his know-how and passion to model maintenance. Customers are offered pampering, immediate minor repairs and made-to-measure belts. Exceptional services such as model loan and home delivery complete the offer.
Samples of precious leathers in an infinite range of colors are on display so that visitors can touch and appreciate the quality of the wrought materials, and it will also be possible to compose semi-custom models on a touch screen by choosing leather, lining and trimming options from a wide range of proposals.
In the French Légèreté library, literary works and books on cooking, decorating and gardening will introduce you to a whole new art of living.
An interactive book retraces 135 years of leather goods. Last but not least, a selection of vintage pieces is on display, giving the public the pleasure of discovering the history of the House of Lancel – the first leather goods house founded in Paris in the 19th century, in the euphoria of the Grand Boulevards, thanks to the audacity of its founder, Angèle Lancel – and its heritage, so prevalent in today’s collections.
Built to the highest standards of luxury, the Maison’s new flagship is full of surprises…
