In 2009, while pursuing a career as a photographer and art director in the fashion and music worlds, Kares left Paris for a personal and above all identity-based project: to create portraits of forgotten faces. His aim is to shed light on sensitivities by deciphering the personalities behind cultures that are sometimes unknown and often misunderstood. These images open up a dialogue and remind us that behind every country, every custom, every religion, there are, above all, individuals.
This 2-year journey took him to the sedentary tribes of Southeast Asia and the gypsies of Kashmir and Rajasthan (India), enabling him to compare Tibetan culture with the nomadism of Central Asia, from sadhus to shamans, from Buddhism to Islam, from the mountains of Nepal to the Mongolian steppes, via the Silk Road to the Middle East.
The exhibition will also be an opportunity for the artist to present and sign his book 56000 kilomètres, un continent et des hommes – www.travelbykares.com
To mark the release of his book, Kares will be exhibiting in the Galerie de l’Hôtel Lutetia.
