For its 2011 edition, the Festival Mode et Design de Montréal brought together, alongside its Montreal designers, the whimsical artworks of Jean Paul Gaultier, with the artistic direction of Tanel Bedrossiantz, the designer’s muse and collaborator, for the presentation of the Fall/Winter 2011-2012 collection.
After sublimating punks and rabbis, Gaultier celebrates the woman who, in his eyes, represents a light-hearted Parisienne. Entitled Bourgeoises sans âge, the collection is anti-ageing, without corset or skin, for women who don’t want to look like their 20-year-old daughter. Mc-Gill Avenue (our Avenue Marceau) was packed to the rafters for this fashion show-performance, in prime time on Day 1 of the festival.

The show was breathtaking, with Gaultier fetish models such as Ève Salvail and Fransisco Randez. Tanel, who carries with him at least 80 fashion shows, opened the show.

At the end of the show, I exchanged a few words with Tanel Bedrossiantz.
Alessandro: Congratulations! You’ve amazed Montreal tonight.
Tanel: You know, Montreal has always welcomed us. This is the 3rd time I’ve been back here. The exhibition was a success. The Pinkarnaval (in June) was a fashion mass for the citizens. And tonight, we had this immense pleasure.
Alessandro: Yes, Pinkarnaval. Possibly organize it in Paris.
Tanel: Absolutely. That would be a great initiative.
Alessandro: I have to tell you, tonight was a real eye-opener. Do you remember the first time Jean Paul saw you in your boubous and creoles?
Tanel (laughs out loud): Yes! I had spirit! He saw me and liked it right away. Since then, I’ve remained loyal. Because he’s loyal to his collaborators, models and seamstresses. (pause…) Yeah, he really had a nose for me!
Alessandro: Thanks Tanel. In any case, lots of thrills tonight!
Tanel: Come and have a drink…
Charming and spontaneous. Truly a simple and endearing man. Beyond creative!

At the same time, Groupe Sensation Mode, which organizes the festival, staged a high-heeled race (won by a man!), the Body Diversity for a Healthy Image fashion show, the Highlight fashion show on fashion week with Clin d’œil Magazine with Montreal’s favorite stars wearing the creations of Montreal designers: !Nu.i, Annie 50, Anomal Couture, Barilà, Bodybag by Jude, Christian L’enfant Roi, Cluc Couture, Cokluch, Denis Gagnon, Dinh Bà Design, Envers par Yves Jean Lacasse, Harricana par Mariouche, Marie Saint Pierre, Mélissa Nepton, Micalla, Miss Mak Designs, Mulcair, Nadya Toto, Ying Gao et Karl Latraverse, Rachel F., Ralph Leroy, Rud styles by Rudsak, Samuel Dong, Samuel Mercure, Soia & Kyo, Concours Télio and by Thomas.
