Nestled beneath Thierry Costes’ Germain café, Germain Paradisio is the first private cinema on demand, equipped with a digital projector. Owned by MK2, it was designed by INDIA MAHDAVI.
Le Paradisio is nestled in the heart of the Café Germain, a mythical cultural venue: originally the Furstenberg, a jazz club decorated by Slavik Vassiliev, deeply rooted in the vibrant life of Saint Germain des Près.
Entrusted to the hands of sculptor Xavier Veilhan and designer India Madhavi, Café Germain in turn became a strong cultural venue, offering an experience far beyond the simple act of consumption.
The idea of a collaboration with Mk2 was then obvious, giving birth to Germain Paradisio.
INDIA MAHDAVI, design
Open for a year now, Café Germain is coming to life. “For Café Germain, I appropriated the codes of the Parisian bistro to divert and juxtapose them. I deconstructed the space by playing with scale and proportion, making it angular and very raw. The Paradisio extends the history of the place and is its “belly”, so I designed a space that is all curves and roundness, like a skin. Because a cinema is a world apart, a refuge.
India’s first sketches absorb the imperfections of this space, eliminating every right angle.
Playing with shine, superstition and roundness, the materials are matte and luxurious, the colors oscillate between brown, bronze and blue. A studded “peacok blue” leather fresco, enhanced by flat areas of felt in primary colors, sketches a fantasy landscape: a lion, a flower, a bird on a branch. Chic in brass or hammered stainless steel…and as always a certain vision of comfort, regressive but elegant, modern but with a sense of humor,
in the image of XXL seats, zebra-skin poufs… ” Paradisio is a unique moment in an imaginary world. Autarkic, king of this kingdom, you can choose your film and dine there, sheltered from the light, noise and city, whose heart beats just above you”. The result is simply sublime.
A private cinema
Separate from the restaurant and with its own private entrance, the cinema can accommodate up to 25 people. Whenever you like, you can enjoy croque tomate mozarella bikini, organic salmon in cucumber gravelax or truffle ravioli. A concierge is on hand to cater to your every need.
You can watch new releases, 3D films, restored classics, entertainment programs or sporting events at a time of your choosing.
High-tech projection
The projection room is equipped with state-of-the-art broadcasting tools for the cinema experience of tomorrow. Viewers are immersed in a space of high acoustic quality, making the most of the all-encompassing effect of 7.1 multichannel sound. Immersion continues, with the projection of 3D films thanks to a very high-definition projector. All your desires can come to life on the big screen, with the possibility of watching DVDs or Blu Ray formats, and even playing games on high-definition consoles.
