“I believe that every piece should have a touch of magic in it, a twist that makes it special and almost dreamlike. I would best describe my work as really taking pride in elegance and creating a new sophistication with an edge. “Jasmin Santanen
Jasmin Santanen brings us the timeless elegance of Fellini’s baroque female characters in her Spring/Summer 2011 collection“Shimmering Dream“. Inspired by Fellini’s vision and love of women, the Finnish designer offers us a collection full of sensuality and Italian elegance.

The Jasmin Santanen woman loves short, light dresses, perched on patent stilettos that she sometimes chooses in red, contrasting with the neutral colors of the collection. Perfect for summer afternoon strolls, these dresses emphasize the slim waistline while highlighting the curves of a woman with a fiery temperament. The hair is shiny and wispy, like that of Fellini’s heroines.

Inspired by the idea of a film printed on film, Jasmin Santanen has imagined several floral prints that will serve as a common thread throughout the collection. Airy on light, vaporous body-hugging or trapeze-cut dresses, they can also be delicate, adorning subtle transparencies or awakening a swimsuit in a very Saint-Tropez allure. The designer doesn’t hesitate to combine it with a short dress and light coat, or with pants that she accompanies with a top with a big bow, thus breaking the casual side of the outfit.

The Finnish designer multiplies the details. Gathers, pleats, discreet ruffles and fine black lace accompany timelessly chic silhouettes. Skirts, tops and dresses are adorned with organza covering a new cotton print. Interwoven flowers in shades of red and blue on washed silk lend sensuality and refinement to graceful trapeze dresses, strapless gowns and necklines with generous bows.

Black and white is the winning combination in Jasmin Santanen’s Spring Summer 2011 collection. White, off-the-shoulder blouses are worn over pantacourts, revealing a seductive woman who’s not afraid of the eyes. Cotton voile dresses, white or black, gathered, multiply in a sophisticated 50s allure, barely warmed up with a summer coat in neutral hues.

For balmy Italian evenings, Jasmin Santanen offers cocktail dresses in shimmering silk, with décolleté sometimes delicately adorned with lace or sequins. Once again, black remains a safe bet, although a few neutral colors appear here and there. Classic short dresses rub shoulders with long strapless gowns that reveal a magnified Italian diva silhouette, sometimes delicately belted at the waist, when not revealing perfect legs at every step. And to make up for the chill of some summer evenings, summer coats are reinvented iridescent with sunshine.
