Depuis plusieurs années, le sac à main a pris une place de plus en plus importante dans la mode et est souvent le premier acte d’amour pour une marque prestigieuse. Cet accessoire de luxe est devenu au fil des années un objet de désir et se transforme en pièce d’amour lorsqu’on peut enfin y glisser une partie de notre vie.

Il existe des sacs à main qui ne se démodent jamais et traversent les âges tout en restant d’actualité. Certains les nomment à tort  « it bags » mais ils ne sont en rien éphémères. Intemporels leur conviendrait mieux tant ils traversent les époques et les générations avec toujours autant de classe et de style. Chics lorsqu’ils sont portés avec une robe de soirée, ils s’harmonisent également très bien avec un jean et une jolie veste quelle que soit la saison.

Le sac Bamboo de Gucci fait partie de ces intemporels. Ce modèle créé il y a 64 ans est un véritable bijou d’artisanat. Le sac originel était un petit sac à main structuré fabriqué en sanglier avec une anse en bambou incurvée, créé dans l’arrière-boutique florentine en 1947. Pour faire face à la pénurie de matériaux durant la période d’après-guerre, les artisans ont eu la brillante idée de transformer une pièce de bambou en anse de sac en la polissant et en la cintrant en demi-cercle afin de lui donner un aspect lisse et brillant. Articulée et fixée au sac par quatre boucles métalliques, l’anse en bambou a donné naissance au sac Bamboo pour notre plus grand plaisir. Ce modèle est devenu depuis un exemple emblématique de l’exceptionnelle créativité de l’artisanat de Gucci.

Frida Gianinni, la directrice artistique de Gucci, revisite cette saison ce classique, en proposant un New Bamboo confectionné de la même manière que l’original. Proposé, outre dans sa forme historique, dans de nouvelles dimensions plus adaptées à notre mode de vie du 21ème siècle, le New Bamboo requiert 13 heures de travail pour assurer la perfection de ses détails. Bords en cuir surélevés lisses et brillants sur l’extérieur, anse en bambou dotée dorénavant d’une lanière en cuir et d’une seconde lanière chaîne en métal tendue avec une base tressée, pompons frangés, sont autant de détail qui font la différence et qui perpétuent la formidable histoire d’amour des femmes et du sac Bamboo.

La nouvelle collection Printemps-Eté 2010 du New Bamboo est l’occasion pour la marque de proposer une exposition itinérante dédiée au sac emblématique : Bamboo Forever. Cette exposition retrace l’histoire du Bamboo à travers des modèles vintage, venant des archives de la Maison, et des photographies de célébrités portant le sac à travers les années, parmi lesquelles Ingrid Bergman et Vanessa Redgrave. D’autres images historiques montrent la production et les différentes campagnes publicitaires du sac. Une vidéo est même proposée montrant l’évolution du sac au fil des années, ainsi que les différentes étapes de fabrication qui sont toujours attentivement respectées dans les ateliers de Gucci à Florence.

L’exposition, proposée à Paris dans la boutique Gucci du Printemps Haussmann, voyagera dans les villes les plus importantes d’Europe où elle sera ouverte au public pour une période limitée.

L’occasion de voir et de comprendre ce qui fait d’un sac à main un must-have intemporel qui fait partie de l’histoire de la mode.

I love Bamboo et j’aime encore plus le New Bamboo.

Sac New Bamboo Collection Printemps Ete 2010

For several years, the handbag has taken an increasingly important place in fashion and is often the first act of love for a prestigious brand. This luxury accessory has become over the years an object of desire and turns into a piece of love when we can finally slip a part of our life into it.

There are some handbags that never go out of style and survive the ages while remaining current. Some people mistakenly call them « it bags » but they are by no means ephemeral. Timeless would be more appropriate for them as they cross the ages and generations with always so much class and style. Chic when worn with an evening dress, they also look great with jeans and a nice jacket whatever the season.

The Bamboo bag by Gucci is one of those timeless bags. This model created 64 years ago is a true jewel of craftsmanship. The original bag was a small structured handbag made of boar with a curved bamboo handle, created in the Florentine back room in 1947. To cope with the shortage of materials in the post-war period, craftsmen had the bright idea of turning a piece of bamboo into a bag handle by polishing and bending it in a semicircle to give it a smooth and shiny appearance. Articulated and attached to the bag by four metal buckles, the bamboo handle gave birth to the Bamboo bag for our greatest pleasure. This model has since become an iconic example of Gucci’s exceptional craftsmanship.

Frida Gianinni, Gucci’s creative director, revisits this classic this season, offering a New Bamboo made in the same way as the original. Offered not only in its historical form, but also in new dimensions more adapted to our 21st century lifestyle, the New Bamboo requires 13 hours of work to ensure the perfection of its details. Smooth and shiny raised leather edges on the outside, bamboo handle with a leather strap and a second metal chain strap with a braided base, fringed tassels, are all details that make the difference and perpetuate the great love story of women and the Bamboo bag.

The new Spring-Summer 2010 collection of the New Bamboo is the opportunity for the brand to propose a travelling exhibition dedicated to the emblematic bag: Bamboo Forever. This exhibition traces the history of the Bamboo through vintage models from the House’s archives and photographs of celebrities wearing the bag over the years, including Ingrid Bergman and Vanessa Redgrave. Other historical images show the production and the different advertising campaigns of the bag. A video is even proposed showing the evolution of the bag over the years, as well as the various stages of manufacture that are always carefully respected in the workshops of Gucci in Florence.

The exhibition, held in Paris at the Gucci store in Printemps Haussmann, will travel to major European cities where it will be open to the public for a limited time.

The opportunity to see and understand what makes a handbag a timeless must-have that is part of fashion history.

I love Bamboo and I love the New Bamboo even more.
