This Friday, January 22, 2010, the ceremony of the Great Vermeil Medal of Inès de la Fressange was followed by the presentation by Lyne Cohen-Solal, deputy in charge of trade, crafts, independent professions and crafts, and Jean-Bernard Bros, deputy in charge of tourism, of the 6 Grands Prix de la Création de la Ville de Paris endowed with 8,000 € each, in 3 disciplines: fashion, design and crafts. These trophies are awarded annually in these three disciplines in order to distinguish three major confirmed creators and three major new creators for the whole of their work. They distinguished:
For the design: Alexandre Moronnoz (confirmed) and Felipe Ribon (beginner)
For fashion: Julien Fournié (confirmed) and Yiqing Yin (beginner)
For the crafts: Tzuri Gueta (confirmed) and Marie Charpentier (confirmed).

On this occasion, we exchanged a few words with the first-time laureate Yiqing Yin.

Yiquin Yin and one of his creations

Graduated in September 2009 from the Arts Décoratifs de Paris in clothing section, Yiqing Yin built her collection Exils around the dynamic capacities of the fold, volumes in mutation. As a way of sculpting the void around the body. The clothes designed by Yiqing Yin protect and strengthen the aura of the wearer. A “soft” armor where one finds his exile.

At 24 years old, this young French-Australian designer of Chinese origin benefits from a solid training in all stages of fashion and professional experiences that reveal an assertive and striking personality.

First of all, congratulations on your award. This model is very worked. What school did you graduate from?

I just graduated from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in September 2009.

Were you approached by the Paris City Hall for this award?

No, not at all. I had seen an advertisement about the contest in Paris and I wanted to try my luck. I sent in my application and they selected me.

This dress is reminiscent of medieval dresses but much more elaborate.

Yes, absolutely, you can see a cape side to it. But these dresses are more reminiscent of ancient Korean clothing that have this cut, very tight at the top until below the chest and then suddenly flared down. This garment is made of huge rectangular pieces of fabric. And it’s the same fabric that goes almost all the way around the garment.

The photos illustrating your work are very beautiful. And I see that you are presenting a book. What is he talking about?

This is my book which presents in images the concept of “Exiles”, the collection, the type of woman that this collection dresses, the technical approaches, the researches, the aspirations with different kinds of image settings.

Creation of Yiqing Yin

And precisely for which woman do you create?

The woman is quite dual because the modern woman must advance with the warrior will of a man without sacrificing her femininity, her sensuality. What is difficult is to find a kind of balance between these two extremes. But I think I create for an independent woman anyway.

Where can we find your creations?

For now, nowhere. I am launching my brand this year. I will present my collection in September so I’ll see you in September.

Well, we thank you for that and we’ll see you in September.
