The House of Chopard has once again demonstrated its attachment to the seventh art by creating an exclusive jewelry collection for the upcoming film Nine , produced by The Weinstein Company (TWC), and directed by Rob Marshall, who, among other things, directed « Memoirs of a Geisha » and the very famous « Chicago ».

The great Swiss watch and jewelry company plays a leading role in the world of cinema, first as jeweler to the stars but also through its legendary partnership with the Cannes Film Festival. Caroline Gruosi-Scheufele, Co-President of Chopard, is the driving force behind Chopard’s exceptional relationship with cinema.

It was she who, eleven years ago, redesigned the Cannes Festival’s famous Palme d’Or. It was also on her initiative that the Trophée Chopard was created in 2001, which each year rewards two particularly promising young talents at the Cannes Festival, with previous winners including 2008 Oscar-winner Marion Cotillard.

Renowned for its original and exclusive creations, the House of Chopard also shines on the Red Carpets of the world: from the Oscars to the Cesars, via the Bafta’s and the Venice Film Festival. From the greatest to the youngest hopefuls, actresses from all over the world call on Chopard to accompany them on the red carpet. In honor of this special relationship, Chopard created the Red Carpet collection in 2007. This special collection of High Jewelry was imagined by Caroline Gruosi-Scheufele to meet all the desires of actresses preparing to live these precious moments. Creations from this collection, made again in 2008, have adorned the greatest stars during unforgettable moments, helping to seal the artistic link between Chopard and the most beautiful moments in cinema.

And it is once again Caroline Gruosi-Scheufele who is behind the exceptional artistic collaboration between the House of Chopard and the film crew of Nine.

Nine is a flamboyant musical that tells the story of acclaimed director Guido Contini(Daniel Day-Lewis) as he searches for creative inspiration while undergoing a personal crisis of rare intensity. He then thinks about the women who have marked his life: his wife (Marion Cotillard), his mistress (Penélope Cruz), his muse (Nicole Kidman), her costume designer(Judi Dench), a Vogue journalist (Kate Hudson), a prostitute he met in Rome when he was very young(Fergie) – and his mother (Sophia Loren).

Originally a musical created in 1982 on Broadway, Nine received 12 Tony Award nominations in its first run on Broadway under the direction of Tommy Tune and choreography by Thommie Walsh.

» I called Caroline, who I’ve known for years, to see how we could work together on this project, » said Harvey Weinstein, co-chairman of TWC (The Weinstein Company).  » We were looking for a jewelry house to work with our costume designer Colleen Atwood. I knew that Chopard would be perfect and that our collaboration would be a success. »

« After meeting Colleen Atwood, costume designer on Nine and Oscar-winning stylist in the past, I immediately understood the need for a very different style depending on the characters in the film. « said Caroline Gruosi-Scheufele.  » Colleen explained to me her vision for each woman, her inspirations, and together we created a special Haute Joaillerie collection, custom made for each character. «

The Parisian premiere of the film took place on February 18, 2010 on the Champs-Elysées in the presence of actors Marion Cotillard, Penelope Cruz and Daniel Day-Lewis and director Rob Marshall. Marion Cotillard and Penelope Cruz were both adorned with Chopard jewelry.

Marion Cotillard highlighted her asymmetrical Dior mini-dress by wearing a unique Chopard yellow diamond earring and a ring set with a central cushion-cut diamond weighing more than 5 carats adorned with 337 diamonds weighing 1.52 carats.

While Penelope enhanced the glamour of her L’Wren Scott sheath with a pair of Chopard pendants composed of 20 pear-cut diamonds (14.50 carats), a white gold bracelet set with 444 white diamonds (10.90 carats) and 315 black diamonds (12.38 carats) and a ring set with an emerald-cut diamond weighing more than 5 carats and two diamond-shaped diamonds weighing more than one carat.

A glamour of rigor for a breathtaking event but oh so prestigious.

The exclusive collection created for the film is presented on the brand’s website: www.chopard.com.

As for the film Nine, it will be in theaters on March 03, 2010.
