A few questions to Thomas Dimetto, creator of the Dimetto fine handmade hats brand, who marries audacity and rigor. Collections with a strong identity that delight both men and women.
Thomas Dimetto, you worked as a graphic designer for over 10 years. What drew you to fashion?
At the time, I was part of a collective called La Bonne Merveille, where I designed window displays for Galeries Lafayette. By dint of manipulating different materials, especially fabrics, I wanted to make volume, cut. I wanted to do manual work.
Why did you choose the hats?
Simply because I realized that I really had plenty of them at home. I wanted to create my own.
Your pieces are unisex and are also aimed at children, do you adapt some pieces to this sector?
My hats can indeed be made in small sizes. However, I do not create according to the child. My pieces are quite expensive, between 250 and 500 euros; ethically, I wouldn’t be comfortable with that. I have children of my own and am not in favor of this type of purchase.
What can you tell us about the Summer 2010 collection?
For this collection, I created the Lindon model, inspired by the film “Barry Lindon”. Based on the tricorn, it is adjustable thanks to a system of snaps. There are 2 versions: one 100% cotton, the other, more upscale, all panama and leather. You can wear it asymmetrically, giving it a more cowboy profile. The main idea of this collection is to protect from the sun.
