The Balvenie, Scotland’s prestigious Highland distillery, is renowned for its traditional whisky-making methods, perpetuating the five rare crafts of barley growing and malting, boiler making, cooperage and cellar mastery. This artisanal method gives birth to exceptional single malts, which have their place in The Balvenie’s Stories collection. This collection offers a unique experience, highlighting the authenticity and character of the different nectars.

For Father’s Day, The Balvenie invites whisky lovers, enthusiasts and collectors to (re)discover its unique expertise through two one-of-a-kind single malts: The Week of Peat 14 year old and The Sweet Toast of American Oak 12 year old. These two nectars are presented in unique bottles, illustrated by English artist Andy Lovell, and pay tribute to the craftsmen who work with mastery and dexterity to craft these premium whiskies.

The Week of Peat 14yo is a single malt telling the story of Ian Millar, former manager of the distillery, who first created a 100% peated The Balvenie reference in the late 90s. To achieve this, The Balvenie’s craftsmen distilled peated barley during a unique week called “Peat Week”, which gave its name to this bottle. This single malt is aged in American oak casks for 14 years, giving it perfect roundness and balance. Delicate smoky notes, floral aromas and a touch of honey on the nose are followed by a round mouthfeel, with flavors of citrus and woody vanilla, finishing on a smoky, ashy, vanilla note. The Week of Peat 14 Year Old is The Balvenie’s only peated whisky, perfectly reflecting the identity of this prestigious distillery.

The Sweet Toast of American Oak 12 Year Old is a single malt even sweeter and fruitier than The Balvenie’s other references. This whisky was created by Kelsey McKechnie, one of the world’s youngest female Malt Masters, who had the brilliant idea of importing toasted virgin oak casks from Kentucky. These casks then underwent a second toasting to extract vanilla and toasty aromas. The Sweet Toast of American Oak is first matured for a minimum of 12 years in ex-bourbon casks, followed by a 6-month finish in these famous new, double-burnt American oak casks. Notes of citrus, vanilla, floral honey and woody spices on the nose give way to flavors of candied orange and lemon peel, caramel and vanilla on the palate, finishing with a rich, delicately spicy finish. The Sweet Toast of American Oak 12 yo is a fruity, gourmet pastry whisky, ideal as an aperitif or after a meal.

These two single malts from The Balvenie are exceptional bottles that offer a unique tasting experience for whisky lovers. The Week of Peat 14 year old and The Sweet Toast of American Oak 12 year old are rare whiskies that perfectly reflect The Balvenie’s craftsmanship and history. The recommended retail price for The Week of Peat 14 ans is €112, and for The Sweet Toast of American Oak 12 ans is €75. These single malts are available from wine merchants.

In short, The Balvenie is a prestigious Scottish distillery that perpetuates traditional whisky-making methods using the five rare crafts associated with this method. The Balvenie’s single malts are exceptional, and the two references on offer for Father’s Day, The Week of Peat 14 year old and The Sweet Toast of American Oak 12 year old, are no exception. These two whiskies offer a unique tasting experience and perfectly reflect The Balvenie’s craftsmanship.
