Champagne House Henri Giraud announces the launch of its first 100% Réserve Perpétuelle Champagne, PR 90-19. This blend of two perpetual reserves (soleras), the first dating from 1990 and the second nurtured by the Esprit de Giraud since the 1950s, is a first in Champagne history. The most recent vintage incorporated into these reserves, and present in this cuvée, comes from the 2019 harvest.

Réserves Perpétuelles are the concentrated extract found in all Henri Giraud Champagnes. They represent the secret and heritage of the house, and are the concentrate of its history and incomparable style. For the first time, the Champagne House reveals the original taste of a 100% Réserve Perpétuelle cuvée. The Réserves Perpétuelles are without doubt the oldest in Champagne, and have been the best-preserved family treasure for many generations.

The creation of PR 90-19 was spearheaded by Sébastien Le Golvet, the House’s Cellar Master and Master of Time, who has been working for over 10 years to master this explosive creation. He came up with the idea in 2010, when the winery was being transformed into a revolutionary ‘Zero Stainless Steel’ cellar. An area of the winery was dug 5 meters below the major bed of the Marne to house 8 heavy concrete-bottomed vats. This out-of-reach retreat, at a constant temperature of 10.5°, benefiting from the dual protection of underground water and concrete, is the ideal refuge for perpetual reserves: Zero carbon / Zero energy spent. Here, the textures relax, the aromas of the accumulated harvests percolate gently in an impressive freshness, keeping in memory the indelible trace of decades of creation and quest for excellence.

PR 90-19 opens up a new dimension, a suspended space-time where the complex, the fruity and the spiritual collide in sparkling sprays of orange blossom pierced by flashes of chalk and mineral bitters. It channels the mad energy born of the fusion of Champagne’s twin marine terroirs over a hundred million years old – the Craie d’Aÿ and the Gaize d’Argonne – into a long, salty, fragrant river of subtle scents. Emotion, brought to its peak, touches the mystical.

Champagne House Henri Giraud, located in Aÿ-Champagne since the 17th century, combines a unique winegrowing heritage with remarkable know-how in blending and ageing. Henri Giraud is one of the most prominent names in Champagne and is committed to perpetuating the reputation of its cuvées, proving time and again that great Champagnes are not just festive bubbles, but authentic gastronomic wines that gracefully defy the test of time.

Cuvée PR 90-19 gives a tremendous boost to the House’s great blond wine and opens up new horizons for Champagne lovers. This rare and unique cuvée embodies the excellence, expertise and respect for tradition of the House of Henri Giraud.

The launch of this cuvée is a milestone in the history of Champagne, as it is the first time a cuvée has been produced from perpetual reserves. This innovation demonstrates the Champagne House’s ability to constantly strive for excellence and explore new avenues in the world of Champagne.

Cuvée PR 90-19 is the fruit of long research and experimentation by Sébastien Le Golvet, the House’s Cellar Master and Master of Time. This cuvée reflects his talent, know-how and passion for Champagne.

PR 90-19 will be available in very limited quantities from May 2023. This exceptional cuvée will be offered for sale in prestigious, specially-designed cases, and will be distributed in the finest establishments in France and internationally.

In short, Cuvée PR 90-19 is a rare and unique cuvée, produced from perpetual reserves, embodying the excellence, expertise and respect for tradition of Maison Henri Giraud. This cuvée is a milestone in the history of Champagne, and demonstrates the Champagne House’s ability to constantly strive for excellence and explore new avenues in the world of Champagne.
