Every year since 2021, Zacapa, the famous Guatemalan rum brand, has offered an exclusive bottle to mark its “Heavenly Cask” collection. This collection celebrates each of the four casks used to age Zacapa rum at an altitude of 2300 metres. After La Doma and El Alma, Zacapa unveils La Armonia, the “barrel of harmony”, for a tasting experience above the clouds.
La Armonia is the latest edition in the Heavenly Cask collection. Each limited edition celebrates one of the casks used in the Sistema Solera, a unique manufacturing process in which rums of different ages and profiles are blended, then aged in a succession of four casks. By benefiting from extended aging in a carefully selected type of cask, each of the limited editions highlights the specific flavors and aromas contributed by the cask in question. Armonia owes its name to the remarkable harmony resulting from the blending of different rums finished in old sherry casks, giving the liquid a silky texture.
Zacapa La Armonia is an exceptional mahogany-colored rum with golden highlights. On the nose, it reveals notes of sherry, caramelized berries and aromas of hazelnut and pecan pie. On the palate, this rum reveals a silky, velvety smoothness combining flavors of caramelized berries, walnuts and sherry. According to Lorena Vásquez, Zacapa’s cellar master, the red berry and pecan notes are reminiscent of the crops that grow abundantly in the Guatemalan landscape. This silky-smooth sensation of caramelized nuts and berries echoes the landscapes of their country.

Lorena Vasquez even recommends accompanying your glass with caramelized walnuts, sprinkled with a pinch of celery salt, to bring out the full richness of this rum. In the kitchen, Zacapa La Armonia can be enjoyed with a piece of grilled filet mignon with sherry sauce, combined with toasted shredded coconut.
