The Trophée Chopard is back for its 23rd edition at the Cannes Film Festival, and this year actress Natalie Portman has been chosen as its patron. Created in 2001, the award recognizes the promising career debut of a talented actor or actress at a prestigious gala dinner organized by Iris Knobloch, Thierry Frémaux and Caroline Scheufele, Co-President and Artistic Director of Chopard.

Since its creation, the Trophée Chopard has spotlighted up-and-coming artists, including Marion Cotillard, Léa Seydoux, Diane Kruger, Niels Schneider, Florence Pugh and Jessie Buckley. This year, two new talents will be recognized by the Chopard Trophy Academy, made up of prizewinners and sponsors from previous editions. The award will be presented at a prestigious dinner on May 19, under the banner of transmission.

The patron of this year’s event, Natalie Portman, is one of the world’s foremost actors. First seen in Luc Besson’s « Léon » in 1994, she has since gone on to play roles in over 60 films and 5 TV series, while diversifying into directing and producing. In 2011, she won the Oscar for Best Actress for her performance in Darren Aronofsky’s « Black Swan ». But Natalie Portman is also a committed woman who defends noble causes, such as the fight against sexism.

It is therefore with emotion and kindness that the exceptional godmother will present the awards to the winners of the Trophée Chopard 2023. Caroline Scheufele, Co-President and Artistic Director of Chopard, was delighted with the choice of Natalie Portman for this year’s event: « I know that she puts her heart into her projects, and it is with great emotion and kindness that she will present the winners of the Trophée Chopard 2023 with their awards. »

The Trophée Chopard is a film award that promotes the transmission of knowledge and enables young talents to make their mark on the international film industry. Once again this year, it will shine the spotlight on promising artists, thanks to patron Natalie Portman.
