Lutetia sales review, May 19-24, 2014.
Organized by Pierre Bergé & Associés in collaboration with Pierre-Guilhem Métayer.
Divided into 11 auctions, the week’s sales attracted large crowds from the outset. The €2,666,700 raised exceeded forecasts.
The sales, which took place in a studious yet friendly atmosphere, included nearly 4,700 lots, including 3,000 pieces of furniture, 8,000 bottles of wines and spirits, as well as works of art and design pieces, some by Thierry Bisch, Arman César Takis Hiquily, Philippe Parrin, Chen Main, Fernando and Humberto Campana, Guillaume Piéchaud…
The furniture unleashed a wave of enthusiasts, each time surpassing basic estimates and fetching thousands of euros. For example, a display case containing jewelry collections, estimated at €400, sold for €5,023 (lot 2471).
Those nostalgic for the brasserie and the restaurant witnessed the soaring prices of brasserie services, with some plate auctions exceeding seven times the basic estimate.
Rounding off the auction were the wines and spirits from the hotel’s cellar, more than 8,000 bottles divided into 645 lots. The highlight of the sale was a bottle of Romanée-Conti from 1989, estimated at €6,000-7,000, which fetched €8,100. (lot 4181)
Artworks and furniture from Chen Man’s Zou Suites, steel furniture from the Effeil Suite designed by Guillaume Piéchaud and works by artist Chemiakin delighted collectors.
