Dolce & Gabbana once again pays tribute to Italian artisan tradition, and for the very first time applies the art of micro-mosaic to eyewear. A treatment with its roots in ancient Roman culture, the micro-mosaic technique involves spinning the tesserae that make up mosaics into dimensions considerably smaller and finer than those of classic mosaics.
The micro-mosaic created exclusively for the Dolce & Gabbana eyewear collection is the result of skilful Murano glass spinning and meticulous micro-tessellation, carried out strictly by hand by craftsmen who have made this technique the cornerstone of their business.
To create the floral mosaic compositions that adorn the eyewear in the Dolce & Gabbana Mosaico collection, over thirty types of tesserae have been used, faithfully reproducing leaves, pistils and petals. The result is a truly inimitable “work of art”, an expression of the highest, most exclusive luxury, and a tribute to the floral theme so beloved of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, strongly rooted in the heart of the brand.
