A few days ago, we flew to Bavaria to discover the all-new Citroen C4 Grand Picasso. A vehicle that stands out for both its design and its interior space. You’ll have a great time driving this car, as the interior has been meticulously designed to enhance comfort and the user experience. A real loft on wheels. Discover …

CITROËN marks a new stage in its product offensive with the unveiling of the new CITROËN Grand C4 Picasso: a uniquely styled car that differs markedly from the 5-seater version, with a new balance between space on board and fluid lines. The efficiency of the new EMP2 platform enables it to offer the best synthesis on the market in terms of modularity, habitability and accessibility. It also boasts record CO2 emissions, with a version at just 98 g/km. It also inaugurates brand-new BlueHDi technology, with a version delivering 150 hp and emitting just 110 g/km of CO2.

The new CITROËN Grand C4 Picasso features a new BlueHDi engine that meets Euro 6 standards by incorporating an SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) module, the only technology capable of significantly reducing NOx emissions (-90%) while cutting CO2 emissions. The result is a performance/consumption ratio totally unprecedented in the category: 150 hp for just 110 g/km of CO2 with manual gearbox, and 117 g/km with the latest-generation automatic gearbox.

Thanks to its strong design, it is clearly differentiated from the 5-seater version (specific technological front end, side signature roof arches, new 3D-effect LED rear lights). It also combines all the advantages of the new-generation CITROËN C4 Picasso, with : a loft-style interior with a refined ambience and exceptional comfort for every passenger, with dedicated air blowers in row 3 in addition to the lounge pack; technologies to enhance well-being, with a 100% touch-sensitive driving interface combined with a high-definition 12″ panoramic screen; innovations to make driving even easier, with the launch of Vision 360, an exclusive feature in this segment; a comfort/handling synthesis that breaks with previous generations, with electric power steering and optimized ground handling.

Fluid lines suggest space on board
The particularly fluid front end marks the new identity of CITROËN styling, with an engine block featuring strong horizontal lines and chevrons that extend around the LED daytime running lights. Just below them are slimmed-down headlamps that add to the technological look of the front end. Fog lamps complete this highly original lighting signature.

The LED taillights feature a 3D effect with a deep, unprecedented design that is both futuristic and technological. The rear view is further enhanced by the adoption of a flap that suggests the robustness and generosity of the trunk. Opened, this flap provides wide, easy access to the trunk.

To highlight these styling assets, the CITROËN Grand C4 Picasso comes in a range of eight colors, from refined Shark gray, Aluminum gray, Hickory brown, Banquise white and Onyx black to luminous Rubi red, Teles blue and Kyanos blue. There are also three 16″, 17″ and 18″ alloy wheels.

A loft-style interior

The clean, uncluttered interior of the new CITROËN Grand C4 Picasso has been designed with a loft feel. This impression is reinforced by the standard panoramic windscreen and large glass roof, which bathe the new CITROËN Grand C4 Picasso in natural light. It boasts a benchmark glazed surface area of over 5.70 m2. At night, the white LED lighting also contributes to this feeling of well-being, creating a hushed ambience (ceiling light, backlighting of storage compartments, front seat back shelves and interior door handles).

The loft spirit of the new CITROËN Grand C4 Picasso is also reflected in the quality of the materials used and the attention paid to every detail: the perceived quality of the new CITROËN Grand C4 Picasso is at the top of its class.

LThe dashboard, with its asymmetrical design, combines different colors and materials. On the driver’s side, black, with its technological connotations, dominates, echoing the passenger side in a lighter shade (Slate or Champagne, depending on the harmony chosen), with a glittery effect. And to add a personal touch, the large 12-inch panoramic screen in the center of the dashboard can even display a high-definition photo.

Satin chrome and high-gloss black inserts complete the look. The door panels are also treated with the utmost care: the crossbar features a novel laser-engraved motif. Care and refinement go into every detail.

Every passenger in the new CITROËN Grand C4 Picasso benefits from special treatment to make them feel at home: the asymmetrically designed front seats are finished with a graphic effect that suggests the sofa spirit of the bench seat; row 2 has three independent armchairs with adjustable seat and backrest inclination; air blowers are dedicated to passengers in row 3, an exclusive feature in the category.

In the new CITROËN Grand C4 Picasso, all passengers travel in first class thanks to the Lounge Pack, an exclusive in this segment, comprising massaging seats at the front, a Relax seat allowing the front passenger to extend his or her legs and, for all, a Relax headrest to support the neck. And that’s just great!

And as in first class, passengers in row 2 can take advantage of the “plug & play” Multimedia package to watch their favorite films on the 2 screens integrated into the front headrests.

A 100% digital, 100% tactile driving interface
The new CITROËN Grand C4 Picasso features a 100% digital driving interface that is both intuitive and aesthetically pleasing. The uncluttered dashboard is structured around two centrally-located screens: a 7″ touchpad and a panoramic 12″ HD screen.
As standard, the 7″ touchscreen, with its 7 touch-sensitive push buttons, controls all the vehicle’s functions: dual-zone climate control, navigation, audio, telephone, driving aids, connected services… All the controls are at your fingertips!
Spectacular, the 12″ HD panoramic screen displays essential driving information and can be configured at any time by the driver. You can choose to display navigation information or driving aids as you wish. The driver can even use a USB key to display a personal photo in the background. In this way, the car becomes a real living space, with all the information the driver needs right in his or her field of vision. A new ‘Graphic’ personalization theme completes the two themes presented at the launch of the 5-seater version.

And to keep you connected, the new CITROËN Grand C4 Picasso features a portal of connected applications, CITROËN Multicity Connect, controlled from the 7″ touchscreen tablet. Adapted to automotive use, these multiple applications make life easier for the driver and passengers: by guiding them to the nearest and/or cheapest service station using the “Fuel” application; by allowing it to search for a hotel or restaurant using the “Yellow Pages” and “Trip Advisor” applications; by providing information on traffic conditions using the “Michelin Trafic” application; by alerting them to high-risk traffic zones using the “Coyote” application.
All these applications are fully integrated into the driving interface and can take into account vehicle information (position, speed, navigation route, fuel level…) to deliver relevant information at the best time to anticipate the driver’s needs in any situation.

Relaxed, easy driving

In addition to everyday functions such as hands-free access and start (ADML), motorized roller shutter, 220-volt socket, backlit tablets and rearview camera, the new CITROËN Grand C4 Picasso offers innovations for easy, relaxed driving, such as :

the Vision 360 system, exclusive to the segment: thanks to four cameras positioned around the car, the driver can choose between a bird’s-eye view of the car, a rear view only, or a panoramic front view – ideal for garage exits! This gives you a complete view of your immediate surroundings. Vision is extended, and maneuvering made easier;

-the Park Assist system: this parking aid assists the driver in finding a parking space, and automatically maneuvers the vehicle once a space has been found, whether in a parallel parking slot or in a battle. All the driver has to do is manage acceleration and braking.

Technologies for safety

The new CITROËN Grand C4 Picasso is a concentrate of technologies designed to anticipate and assist, for ever safer and more serene driving:

– an active cruise control system, using radar in the front bumper, detects and warns of any slowing of the vehicle in front, and maintains a constant gap by acting on acceleration and engine braking within a limit of plus or minus 25 km/h. Once the road is clear, the car automatically returns to the set speed. This evolution of the classic cruise control system provides additional comfort in use, and is offered as standard on the exclusive level;

– Anticollision Alert, which also uses the front-mounted radar to warn the driver that his vehicle is too close to the one in front. This alert operates from 30 km/h, with 3 levels of alert depending on the risk (visual, audible and seatbelt tension);

– intelligent traction control, an electronic system that improves traction on low-grip terrain. For comfort and roadholding in all situations, even the most extreme!

– active seatbelts for the driver and front passenger are equipped with motors that automatically tighten the belt in the event of danger, for maximum protection. What’s more, in conjunction with video AFIL (Lane Departure Warning System), the driver is alerted to lane departure by vibrations in the belt;

– image processing from a miniature camera integrated into the rearview mirror manages automatic high beams, i.e. the automatic activation and deactivation of high beams according to surrounding lighting and traffic conditions. This technology means you can use your high beams 5 times more often than if you operated them manually. It also provides a new, more predictive generation of lane departure warning (video AFIL);

– the ultrasonic blind spot monitoring system informs the driver of the presence of a vehicle in the blind spot by means of an orange diode positioned in the corner of the exterior mirrors. Comprising 4 sensors located in the front and rear fascias, this system, active between 12 and 140 km/h, monitors the area delimited at the front by the exterior mirror, extending to around 5 m behind the rear bumper and 3.5 m to the side of the vehicle.

– CITROËN eTouch, a service that includes a localized emergency call and assistance system (depending on the country), two free services available 24/7 thanks to an integrated SIM card. In the event of an incident or accident, they guarantee precise location and rapid intervention by emergency services.

These intelligent technologies make the road safer for the driver, passengers and others, so that, more than ever, driving is a moment of pleasure and serenity. For this new generation of C4 Picasso, more than 3.5 million kilometers of development driving have been carried out, in several countries and in the most extreme situations, to guarantee total serenity of use.
Efficient architecture for ever greater modularity and habitability

The new CITROËN Grand C4 Picasso sets new architectural standards. The modular EMP2 platform has enabled the rear wheel to be moved 55 mm further back than on the 5-seater version, giving it a specific long wheelbase of 2.84 m (the longest in the segment, and even longer than the CITROËN C8). While retaining the same length as the previous generation, the new CITROËN Grand C4 Picasso allows :

– to carry up to 7 people thanks to its third row of folding seats;
-to free up more than 2.75 m of load length by converting the front passenger seat into a table;
-to offer the best interior space in the segment in rows 2 and 3, with maximum flexibility (maximum knee room of 217 mm in row 2 and 108 mm in row 3);
– the best row 3 accessibility in the segment, with optimized dimensions and door opening angles (rear wheel set back 55 mm compared with the 5-seater version) and the longest row 2 longitudinal adjustment length in the segment (150 mm);
a 69-liter increase in load volume over the previous generation, with a trunk capacity of 645 liters VDA and over 700 liters when row 2 is moved forward to its maximum. It’s also the widest trunk in its class, with 1.17m between the wheel arches.

These optimized dimensions (L: 4.59 m / W: 1.83 m / H: 1.63 m), combined with electric power steering and an 11 m turning radius, make the new CITROËN Grand C4 Picasso an agile vehicle that adapts to all driving situations.

The new CITROËN Grand C4 Picasso also offers a host of clever and practical storage compartments throughout the cabin. For example, the illuminated storage compartment in the center of the dashboard features jack, USB and 220V sockets, ideal for plugging in your smartphone or tablet while staying out of prying eyes. There’s also a removable console between the passenger and driver seats on versions equipped with a pilot-controlled gearbox, so you can keep your personal belongings close at hand. And, of course, there’s storage space under the front seats and in the door panels, storage nets, shelves on the backs of row 1 seats with LED lighting, and practical storage hatches in the floor of row 2.

Segment leader in terms of CO2 emissions and fuel consumption

To meet the challenge of reducing CO2 emissions, the new CITROËN Grand C4 Picasso has been lightened by more than 100 kg compared with the previous generation, thanks to :

– the new 60-kg EMP2 platform, which uses aluminum and THLE (very high yield strength) steel on certain parts, and benefits from a composite rear floor;

-The silhouette is also 40 kg heavier, thanks to optimized exterior dimensions and the use of new materials such as an aluminum hood and composite flap.

-And in the case of the e-HDi 115 engine, nearly 110 kg have been saved compared with the equivalent version of the previous generation!

This reduced mass, combined with advanced aerodynamics (SCx of 0.70, a segment record) and an optimized engine range, brings a significant reduction in emissions and fuel consumption: on average, 30 grams are saved, or more than 1 liter per 100 km compared to the previous generation.

What’s more, the new CITROËN Grand C4 Picasso is the first large MPV equipped with internal combustion engines that emit less than 100 g/km of CO2. In fact, its e-HDi 90 Airdream engine, fitted with the new-generation ETG6 6-speed manual gearbox, emits just 98 g/km of CO2, giving a combined fuel consumption of 3.8 l/100 km – a record in the category!

In addition, the engine range of the new CITROËN Grand C4 Picasso boasts a number of outstanding features:

-in Diesel, Stop&Start technology is available on all engines;

The top-of-the-range e-HDi 115 boasts 104g of CO2 with ETG6 gearbox (105g of CO2 with manual gearbox) and a combined fuel consumption of 4 l/100 km.

The new CITROËN Grand C4 Picasso is the first CITROËN model to benefit from a BlueHDi engine, meeting Euro 6 standards: the BlueHDi 150 offers a record level of CO2 emissions in its class for this power level: 150 hp and just 110 g/km of CO2 (117g/km of CO2 with automatic gearbox). It incorporates an SCR (selective catalytic reduction) module, the only technology capable of significantly reducing Nox emissions (-90%) while reducing CO2 emissions (in all life situations). Thanks to its location just upstream of the particulate filter, SCR is effective from the moment the engine warms up, and remains fully operational during urban driving. This increases engine efficiency, thanks in particular to a higher volumetric ratio, and results in a reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions of between 2% and 4%.

This BlueHDi 150 engine is also available with a latest-generation 6-speed automatic gearbox, which offers a number of improvements:
lower fuel consumption thanks in particular to reduced internal friction, faster gearshifts, and reduced vibrations through improved absorption of engine acyclism.
To further improve its efficiency in terms of fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, this new automatic gearbox is also combined with Stop and Start technology, thanks to an innovation that maintains oil pressure when the engine is at a standstill.

The 6-speed manual gearbox, available on all diesel engines, is complemented by a new 6-speed electronically-controlled gearbox with enhanced performance: the ETG6 (Efficient Tronic Gearbox 6 speeds), available on e-HDi 90 and e-HDi 115 engines. It allows the driver to switch from one mode (manual or automated) to another according to his or her mood and environment. The gearbox features a creep function and optimum pedal mapping for improved dosability, smooth starts and enhanced driving pleasure. It also features sharper modulation of shift speeds according to driver input, for greater dynamism and comfort. Finally, it is more efficient thanks to optimized gearshift laws.

Combining comfort and handling

The new CITROËN Grand C4 Picasso is all about driving. In addition to the renowned comfort of the CITROËN C4 Picasso, this new generation offers greater agility, manoeuvrability and ease of movement for a more relaxed driving experience.

Lighter weight and a lower center of gravity offer a new balance between comfort and handling, with greater driving pleasure, greater safety and unrivalled suspension comfort thanks to :

-vertically-mounted shock absorbers, and an undercarriage hanger located above the wheel center.

Acoustic and vibration comfort is also outstanding thanks to :

electric power steering for improved filtering of road rises in the steering column:
– rolling noise reduction with front cradle filtering;
– new bi-material acoustic shim on the rear axle.

In short, a magnificent car with exceptional interior space, top-of-the-range finishes and optimized powertrains for reduced fuel consumption.
