Apple never does things the same way as everyone else. The Apple brand creates the event around a festival unique in the world: the iTunes Festival. Sir Paul McCartney, Amy Winehouse and Crowded House were present for the first edition, held in 2007 at the Institute of Contemporary Art in London. Since then, over 370 artists have performed in front of more than 370,000 fans and tens of millions more who have followed along online and on TV. The 2013 vintage promises to be another exceptional one, with a memorable opening concert by Lady Gaga.
What’s the concept? Every evening throughout September, the iTunes Festival will offer over 60 performances in London’s legendary Roundhouse. These performances can be viewed live or on-demand on iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, and also by music fans from iTunes on a computer or in HD with Apple TV. Tickets are free and only available to competition winners. All concerts can be viewed free of charge. Lady Gaga got the ball rolling on Sunday evening, unveiling songs from her new album Artpop.
In terms of programming for the coming days, there’s a lot going on! Judge for yourself: Arctic Monkeys, Pixies, Justin Timberlake, Phoenix (who I’m listening to over and over again at the moment)…
