Fendi Uomo Spring/Summer 2014

Fendi welcomed its public in a sandy setting halfway between construction work and the Saharan desert. The house is known for its eccentricity and the length of its shows (nearly 20 minutes). This season, both criteria were more than met.

It’s a very bold choice to have all the editors and buyers standing at a catwalk show, and Fendi took exactly that liberty, and rightly so when you consider the beauty of the collection, the grandeur of the staging and the elegance of the cast.
The models parading on the sand that made up the Fendi catwalk was risky, to say the least, but visually pleasing, with the colors of the clothes standing out incredibly well.

And color was in abundance at Fendi. Accurately arranged with square cuts and color-blocking, colors were the key to this collection. Mustard, bright red, royal blue and burgundy were the most common.

The mix of materials is also noteworthy, notably on the jackets where ostrich leather and cowhide are combined. Fur is the house’s specialty, but let’s face it, who’d be crazy enough to wear fur in summer? The house proves its intelligence by transposing its know-how of animal skins onto leather.

The silhouettes are pretty basic: shirts, trenches, T-shirts and Italian-style suits.

Benoni Loos, Alex Dunstan, Matthew Bell, Linus Gustin, Rutger Schoone, Anderson Hayward, Simone Nobili, Yannick Abrath, Malcolm de Ruiter, Alexander Ferrario, Jester White, Peter Bruder, Florian Van Bael, Tom Webb, Charlie France and (the sublime) Guerrino Santulliana made up the cast of this diverse collection.
