The first single release from Lady Gaga’s latest album, ARTPOP, APPLAUSE has a video that lives up to the expectations of Gaga’s many fans. Unveiled yesterday morning, the first images show Lady Gaga in her underwear, on all fours on a mattress on the floor, setting the tone. The pictures follow one another, always very aesthetically pleasing, set to an upbeat pop sound that some might describe as grueling. Nervous black-and-white shots are splashed with color images. A highly inspired video-clip, orchestrated by Danish photographers Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, already responsible for the V Magazine cover featuring Lady Gaga in the nude.
Inspired by burlesque circus, but also by magic and, of course, dance, Lady Gaga performs a series of scenes involving nudity and metamorphosis. Sometimes dancer, magical mermaid, mime, magician, hatter and even swan, the singer remains true to herself, transporting us once again into a fantastic and singular universe.
