AUTUMN / WINTER 2013-14
Syrian designer Rami Al Ali unveiled his Fall/Winter 2013/14 collection inspired by the revolutionary work of Gustav Klimt.
An avant-garde artist of his time, a pioneer of a new generation of art, Klimt’s work combines controversy and genius. Buoyed by the painter’s pictorial creativity in capturing intimate moments, and by a shared admiration for feminine curves, Al Ali redefines intimist and erotic codes. Decorative, gleaming visuals take center stage, just as Klimt’s paintings echoed an inner voice. Exquisite, deliberate graphic lines and personal approaches give way to transgressive values and the depth of a new expressionism, the perfect muse for contemporary fashion.
Inspired by the artist’s “Cycle Doré”, the collection takes shape in a harmony of tones, a rich alliance of gold, silver and platinum. Shades of lavender, old rose and champagne with country and vintage accents bring a touch of softness to the darker, deeper tones of black and violet to sublimate the line. Materials add opulence: the delicate fusion of contemporary lace, soft sheer tulle, chiffon and organza counterbalances the intensity of metallic textiles. Long, flared skirts with cinched waists embody the feminine ideals of Klimt’s masterpieces.
Long, flowing silhouettes are adorned with clean, elegant necklines, symbols of feminine sophistication. Three-quarter dresses with sheer fabrics and pronounced necklines boldly complement long sleeves with a touch of ’50s glamour. Al Ali plays with detail, working with embroidery and intricately patterned ornaments, reminiscent of Klimt’s emblematic, graphic, geometric shapes.
The twenty-nine-piece collection symbolizes innovation, creativity, femininity and beauty, proof for Al Ali that fashion rhymes with art. A collection of rare poetry and mastery.
