Swarovski has been the purveyor of fashion since 1895. For its new couture collection, Alexis Mabille called on Swarovski to create some magnificent pieces.
Interview:
What do you find most exciting about the new AH 2013 collection?
It’s exciting because it’s Haute Couture, so there are no limits in creation and in the use of materials, as with Swarovski crystals.
What were your inspirations and how did you integrate Swarovski crystals into your silhouettes for this collection?
The collection is inspired by the painter Giovanni Boldini: it’s a work of lines and shapes that express the sensibility of this painter’s work and his models from the bourgeois class.
This season, I used Swarovski crystals to embellish and give volume effects to spectacular dresses. Some of them are more abstract, offering an image closer to fresh painting. Others are more classic, but play on combinations and textures, from crystal to mother-of-pearl.
Among your creations, is there a look you’re most proud of and why?
No, I love the whole collection! But there are of course strong pieces like this little pink jacket shaded with mother-of-pearl and bolero crystals. Sublime and delicate, like a jewel!
For more than a decade, Swarovski has supported designers who have embraced crystal as a creative material – what do you think of the role Maison Swarovski plays in the fashion industry, and why is it so important?
Swarovski is the leader in stones and pearls, as well as in other materials, each as innovative as the next! Whether it’s embroidery or jewelry, it’s essential to work with quality products, whether for basics that are reinvented every season and reinterpreted by designers like us to get people talking. The role is decisive in preserving certain techniques and effects.
What are your new challenges and upcoming projects?
We’ve had a lot over the last few years! With our boutique on rue de Grenelle, the “pre-collection” and other store projects in Asia and the United States… so a lot to do! I’m very busy!
