A few weeks ago, we headed off to Bruges and its canals to test the magnificent Opel Cascada.
Opel Cascada is an elegant convertible, seductive in both design and power. Cascada boasts an absolutely clean profile with a rare purity of silhouette. Opel Cascada takes up the torch after several generations of Kadett and Astra convertibles.
The new Opel Cascada is a four-seater convertible with a sleek silhouette and a high-quality soft top with a sophisticated mechanism. Positioned at the top of the Opel range, the Cascada is a large convertible that stands out not only for its size (length: almost 4.70 meters), but also for the many top-of-the-range features it offers.
All occupants can enjoy the pleasures of open-air driving thanks to a high-quality soft top that opens at the touch of a button in 17 seconds at speeds of up to 50 km/h. It can also be operated remotely when the car is not in use. It can also be operated remotely when the car is stationary.
The Cascada’s front axle features the very best of Opel’s chassis technology as standard, with the HiPerStrut (High Performance Strut) offset-pivot suspension design, originally developed for the Insignia OPC.
The first car in the new range to benefit from a new-generation engine, the Cascada offers good value for money and increased power.
A wide range of engines is available for the Opel Cascada cabriolet. The range opens with the 1.4 Turbo petrol engine. Combined with a six-speed manual gearbox, it delivers 103 kW/140 hp and 220 Nm of torque, thanks to an overboost function.
At launch, the highlight of the Cascada powertrain range is the 1.6 SIDI Turbo ECOTEC petrol engine. This direct-injection, mid-displacement unit is part of an entirely new generation that will arrive in early 2013 on Opel’s new cabriolet, and will also power other compact and family models in the range. The 1.6 SIDI Turbo ECOTEC offers extremely linear power with smooth running, perfectly suited to a cabriolet often used for cruising. It delivers 125 kW/170 hp between 4,250 and 6,000 rpm – and 280 Nm thanks to an overboost function – the best torque value of a 1.6 Turbo engine in this power class.
One car comes with top-of-the-range accessories: electric seatbelt display arms, electric Easy Entry system, exclusive Nappa leather upholstery, ergonomically designed ventilated seats, invisible safety systems.
All this at an attractive first price of €29,990 (Cosmo version).
A convertible of rare finesse, flawless motorization and absolutely seductive design that doesn’t compromise between quality and price.
During our stay we also had the pleasure of discovering the rest of the range.
The Opel Adam: a trendy, customizable city car with advanced equipment that facilitates urban mobility. Our favorite for the city.
With the new ADAM, Opel is launching a chic city car for the first time, opening up development opportunities for the brand in a trendy sector. The Opel ADAM boasts assertive, personal styling and virtually unlimited customization possibilities, making each ADAM totally unique. At 3.70 m long and 1.72 m wide, the Opel ADAM reflects the spirit of modern urban youth and brings a great sense of freedom to the streets. It can be customized like no other car, and combines personality with agility.
The ADAM is the first car to feature Opel’s new, highly advanced IntelliLink multimedia system. IntelliLink brings certain smartphone content, such as the BringGo navigation application, into the car. It fetches this content and displays it on the high-resolution 7-inch color touchscreen. The Opel ADAM is available with three petrol engines (1.2 l 51 kW/70 hp, 1.4 l 64 kW/87 hp and 1.4 l 74 kW/100 hp) combined with a five-speed manual gearbox. The 87 hp 1.4-liter engine is equipped as standard with the Start/Stop system, which helps reduce fuel consumption.
Then there’s the space-saving Opel Ampera.
Opel Ampera, aerodynamic and functional, is the first electric car to go “where you want, when you want”. Even before it went on sale, the Ampera had already won more than a dozen awards from specialists and the public for its innovative propulsion concept. The Ampera’s wheels are electrically driven at all times. The 16 kWh lithium-ion battery pack powers a sophisticated 111 kW/150 hp electric powertrain, enabling the car to travel 40 to 80 kilometers on pure, emission-free electricity with a charged battery – depending on road profile, driving style and temperature. According to European regulation 715/2007 setting standards for measuring fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, the Ampera requires just 1.2 l/100 km and emits 27 g/km CO2. To recharge the electric car in a more virtuous way, Opel recently signed a cooperation agreement in Germany with certified green electricity suppliers. Ampera owners benefit from a sustainable supply chain, from electricity production to the Ampera’s battery, at attractive per-kilowatt rates. On the road, the Ampera’s Voltec electric powertrain is responsive and remarkably powerful. The Ampera reaches a top speed of 161 km/h, and takes just 9 seconds to go from zero to 100 km/h, thanks to 370 Nm of instant torque. Driving the Ampera is a unique experience, as it runs almost silently on battery power. Even in extended range mode, it retains its exceptional qualities of silence and absence of vibration. Thanks to the intelligent and practical option of extended range, drivers can drive with complete peace of mind, without having to worry about running out of battery power. The Ampera offers all the environmental benefits and performance quality of a battery-powered electric car, without the drawbacks.
